METROS BEST FANS GET THE SHAFT ROYALLY,we can only get 1 ticket assuming more than just myself bought single ESC METROMEMBERSHIPS. can we unite in someway for a group buy,and who at metro front office would be our best ally in this matter...
i guess it only matters to thoose in ESC who give a shite about seeing this match...so to all who don,t care go on and post about the loss of Petke or something . anybody else that see's my point can chime in or not...
Wait.... wait.... I'm working on it... $35. for a crap seat on a Thurs. night with the line for the bus out of PA winding around 42nd street so that a guy with a job just might get to the Swamp in time for the 2nd half of this beauty contest... Nope. I'm ESC and I don't care. I had my fun watching ManU lose to Arsenal on the telly.
Hope you don't mind an outsider adding that if I went to the match I'd spend the whole time going from one soccer snob to the next asking why it is they are willing to spend $35 and turn out in droves to see a completely meaningless half-speed walk-through where the money gets on a boat and yet refuse to spend a freakin dime helping to build a good American league. A pox on all their houses.
Wow! That REALLY sucks. Thank god I'm not going to waste my time by going to that match....good luck with finding an "ally" in the Metro front office - your best bet is probably the janitor...
Why is a person who is buying tickets for the Man U-Juve match being accused of trying to destroy MLS? As if the money spent on this game rightly belongs to Major League Soccer. There are plenty of us going to this game who will also be going to MLS games. I intend to be at all the Metros games. I also intend on being at any friendlies or exhibitions that may come our way. What's the problem, Bill? You think the games are phony? A lot of people do. Fine, don't attend. I'm not going to go into a long dissertation on this, since I have done so before and nobody's changed anybody's mind on the matter. I'd be beating a dead horse. Suffice it to say that clubs like these don't come around every day, and they don't always come to Giants Stadium when they do make a trip over. So let us go and enjoy ourselves. You can stand outside waving your fist at the stadium and protesting. Blaming everybody in the world for the fact MLS doesn't draw 70,000 soccer enthusiasts at their games. I'll be inside with Sir Alex having a good time. Besides, between July 2 and August 13, there are no MetroStar home games. What's wrong with going to see any game that comes our way during that time?
I'll try to play Devil's Advocate and note he used the phrase "Soccer snob" basically meaning those that think by nature MLS and American soccer is less then a european or Mexican/South American league. It had nothing to do with those who support MLS yet still want to see two high profile teams play essentially a warm up match in their backyard. There's no problem with that. The whone bone of contention lies with again, the "soccer snop" who deem it worthwhile to spend $35 for an upper bowl ticket in Giants Stadium to see the Scum and Juve yet refuse to acknowledge the presence of a league that could use the support of the soccer public in this area. I'm not going, not as a sign of protest, but basically b/c my broke a** needs to pay bills before thinking about seeing a preseason match between these two teams. Especially since I'm sure YES will be broadcasting all of the games of the scum N. American trip.
If I did slog my way out to the Swamp -- and Metro or the US National Team are the ONLY reasons I ever go there -- I'd surely go in for the match, not stand outside in protest. I'm not a fan of ManU or Juve, though I'll watch them for free on TV because it is soccer at what is considered the highest level -- and it's free. My money goes to my home team, and if Metro were playing either one of these visitors I would go. There will be a full house; my attendance is not needed. Half or more of those who go won't see another soccer match at the Swamp till next year and another visit from a Great Big Team. I don't enjoy the company of fans like these.
Hey Brownswan, I'm shocked by your last line, "I don't enjoy the company of fans like these". The folks who go to these ChampWorld games are the same folks that play in our parks, run leagues, coach our kids. Why the smug-ness? Is it their fault that both the MLS and the Metros haven't turned on the ol' charm, and get them to come to their games?! I mean its' ManU vs. Juve ferchrissake! The same teams they went to see closed-circuit, well before the MLS. I know several folks at places like Tutto Calcio and Doss, who were buzzing over last yr's Real-Roma match. These folks haven't felt that way about pro soccer here since the old staff was in place. The guys that reached out- remember?
Do a little thinking on this one, okay? This is not a Metro match, therefore the ESC "rules" do not apply. Which means the seat "assigned" to your season ticket package is probably between two other ESCers with season tix. Since it's a non-metro game, your chances of standing where you want for the United game are nil. You may want multiple seats for this match, but the ESCers assigned to the seats next to you may want some as well. Starting to see the logistics problems?
Exactly, the success of ManU-Juve will hit Nick real hard, another match drawing 50k plus to the Swamp will show that there is a amrket for soccer in this country; but we have failed to capitalize on it. I'm going to be there, its going to be a great evening; and you can bet I'll be wearing my Metro colors.
I'd start with prefacing your statement with "some" since only some of the people who will attend are those that participate in the activities you described above. And in all probability, those are the same "some" who also try to get to MLS matches. The smugness implied earlier I think is directed at those that habituate the places like Tutto Calcio and Doss (whever they may be) that know about MLS yet refuse to view it as a real league and one worthy of their money b/c of perhaps the perceived lack of star/drawing power. The ones who may have been interested in the NASL b/c of their willingness to toss around money at over the hill past their prime European stars in order to draw people to the stadiums. I remember there being full houses at times, yet also remember sparse attendance at the end of the leagues existance. I'm not a marketing exec so I can't tell MLS how they should do certain things, yet I agree with most that say not enough is being done. Since I think most of the ideas drawn up are half-a**ed to begin with, they are going to be stuck with smallish sized crowds until someone comes along that knows how to market this well. And just b/c it's ManU - Juve, I still have no intention of coming out. I don't like either team, so why would I be bothered to show. Didn't go last year and I like Real Madrid and Roma. Hate Juve and Man U, so why would I pay my money to see two teams play that I hate. I just saw them on ESPN2 last week. Considering the game will be on TV. Now if Liverpool were there, then I'd consider paying the money, but they're not, so I'll be home.
I'll be there and I can't wait to go. People like the folks at Tutto Calcio are the same ones the Metro have been shitting on for years. No wonder they could care less anymore. Tutto Calcio is the best and probaqly only soccer only store in Brooklyn. For years they had more Metro gear then even the Metros. Metros have ************ on them, thinking they were above them. Luckily we now have places like the Onion Bag, but how long can it be before they dump on them too? Euro- Snobs are sad folk, but so are the MLS fans that poo poo all soccer fans that don't go to the MLS games. Not all are euro-snobs, some are people who showed up for years and the MFO crapped all over them. Don't think they exist? Then you haven't been watching this team operate since '96.
I retract my statement about Tutto Calcio, as I said, I didn't know what that was. I erred in thinking it was a restaurant/bar/cafe that people gathered to watch games. And yes they should be turend off b/c of the s**t treatment they would have received since I can tell that MFO does seem to have no clue as to what they are doing. Euro-Snops are sad, but they have just as much right to poo-poo on MLS as those MLS fans that poo-poo on those who refuse to go to an MLS game since it's not "real soccer". They both have rights to their opinionsOf course they exist, otherwise there wouldn't have been people talking of the early days when the games drew 50K or so. When you s**t on people, most will leave. I'm sure some of that was due to people losing interest akin to the way WNBA attendance has dried up, but when 30K people dissapear, it's not all lost attendance, it's b/c they've been shat upon and have no desire to endure that treatment, which again is their right. I hope that everyone who goes (for whatever reason) enjoys the game. I've got no hardline stance either way about this game other then a severe lack of money making my decision whether to go or not for me.
