M F‘er. Another late loss. Gave up a goal in minutes 94 to lose 1-0 to Nice.
Two brutal results over these last two matches.
If they get relegated these will stick out.

Troyes up 2-0 on ten man Lille with Weah starting. EPB playing centrally in a 5 man back line.

They have had a few bad weeks of results but St Etienne lost, and if Troyes hangs on they would be 5 points clear with 3 matches left. Would be a monstrous result putting them on the cusp of safety, and EPB would be a big reason.

Lille's fall from league champ to #10 is the biggest I remember in Ligue 1.

3-0! They would need a lot of bad things to happen for them not to survive at this point. Great story going on here,

Is it a shock however? Club in financial turmoil. Uncertain future, losing depth, players and excellent coach. There mid 30 year old striker coming back to earth.
Over achieve to mediocrity was always feasible in this situation IMO.

14th place now with 3 games to go. They should be safe but one last win will clinch it.

Scrolling back through past champions and the closest recent analogue that I see is Montpellier wining the league in 2012 and then finishing 9th in 2013.

They're safe already. There are 3 games to go and they're 5 points clear of the playoff place, with a double-figure GD over all but one of the other cellar-dwellers.

Even if they lose all 3 games, St. Etienne (in the playoff slot) have to overhaul them and can only do that by getting two wins in the next 3. St. Etienne have won 2 out of 3 just once all season and that was back in Valentine's Day.

In any case, the last game of the season is an away 6-pointer with Lorient. With CL-chasing Marseille next, followed by a 6-pointer with Bordeaux, they could start the last game desperate for points and wide open to Troyes counter-attacks.

If not, nobody wants to tear or break something on the final day and spend the summer in rehab, so a glorified training game is a very plausible scenario.

And it finishes as a 2-2 draw! Good comeback.

Troyes are now 6 points clear of the relegation playoff, and St. Etienne (currently 18th) have 3 matches remaining.

Two big results in a row mean that relegation is extremely unlikely. <1% odds on 538.

Finished 3-1 to Lens in the last home game of the season.

One game to go, but Troyes are 6 points ahead of the third-from-bottom side so it's Ligue 1 ahead for at least one YA!

How's that 3 CB at the back working for them overall? Something they might continue to use next season or simply introduced to stave off relegation?

For me a great story. Looks to have gotten out from under the loan lock down. The one Miazga hasn’t been able to. L’Equippe has him as one of the surprises of the second half of the season. He clearly can handle the speed of play and thought overall in Ligue 1. Matt sadly couldn’t. At the very least a good depth piece moving forward.

EPB may even beat out Long for that coveted 3-man backline.
    I can see a line of Richards--Zimerman--EPB
