Trying to keep an interest besides the US Open matches ( and Euros)...

Obviously, this thread doesn't include the collective jubilation of having our own, spanking new soccer-specific stadium. So please don't post to that oh so obvious #1 statement to DCU fans and MLS.

But this thread is for the next big statement to the DCU faithful and league...

As potential new majority owner/investor of DCU, which player williams be Erick Thohir's big splash DP signing that sends a statement to DCU fans and MLS, in general, he's committed winning now and continue DCU tradition of being the flagship organization of league.

Anyone has any knowledge of his ownership history with the Sixers?

Is he a hands-on owner, a la Snyder-ish, or will let Payne and Kasper work the DCU machine, a la Leonis?

Ballack, Seedorf, Del Piero...any others you would want sign as his First DP statement signing?

(Branko lovers here's the moment you've been waiting for).

Do you think DCU will tour and grow its global brand with an majority owner that Resides outside the US?

I wonder what the future holds for this club with Thohir...

Let's squash all discussion on this message board.

There are many reasons why this message board is dying. I've done as much research into Thorir as time will allow me and I cannot get my hands on the type of owner he could be for DCU. He seems to be behind the scenes in Philly, but he's not the lead dog on that thing anyway. If Chang puts together a large team of diversified owners, I would suspect he could still be the managing partner. Chang has proven to let his VP/GM/etc run the team. It doesn't seem like that will change so I guess that means no big time DP. Of course, all anybody really wants is a stadium. If Thorir and others want to splash a bunch of cash for our own stadium I'll take no DPs.

Discussion is great - if it's good discussion. Nothing in the first post (at least the bits of it I could actually understand) indicates good discussion was the point - just what fancy overpriced useless players we should bring in to show off.

If you want to actually talk about Thohir the man, that's neat and useful info to discuss - but not really what the thread-starter asked about

The question who will he'll sign? Come on... He's not even an owner yet.

Now if this was the OP Thread title? Legitimate... better yet in keeping with theme...

Most of us don't give a rats ear about DP while we are without a stadium.

And my guess is the club the feels the same way. Once you have a stadium, with higher ticket prices, more demand for tickets, more buzz, better press, better revenue streams, it makes more sense to splash your cash for a "name" who will deliver is ways other than on the field. Until then, why bother?

Plus, my guess is that with moneyed ownership, a brand new stadium, and being in Washington DC, you would find it much easier to sign players than it is now. A good new stadium, I think, would catapult us into the status realms of NY and LA (and possibly, grudgingly, Seattle) in terms of what is on offer for players who sign here. (NE could get there with a stadium in Boston)

But all of that is a long, long ways off. We have to avoid contraction first.

The evil mojo alone from this thread relative to a not yet consumated ownership deal and on top of that a not yet contemplated DP makes the reaction entirely appropriate IMHO.
