The top 6 with 31 matches to go are on top of each other.

  2. Last matches before the World Cup break:

Wonder what the table looks like after this weekend.

Three teams with equal points at the top of the table, but Feyenoord have yet to play.... HUGE chance to go on top before this mini-break.

AZ got a lucky goal after sloppy pass by Veerman, but AZ defended really, really well. Their CB Beukema will/should be in the team of the week! I didn't think he lost any aerial duels today.

Other than the one misplay by Jasper Karlsson that led to the off side Gakpo goal, AZ gave a clinic is how to defend a one goal lead. I'm liking Pascal Janssen every time I see AZ play and his players (unlike Ajax's ) enjoy playing for him.

  5. It did cost AZ less effort to defend their 1-0 lead than Feyenoord did against SC Cambuur. And PSV wasnot playing that bad at all.
One player made huge strides in a short time sincelast season, Reijnders.
If one player deserved the right to be selected it was him instead of Taylor.
It's always a joy to watch AZ play. In my opinion they have the best functioning midfield of the Eredivisie atm.

  6. We have a stat that's not so reassuring. In 60% of the cases that our competitors dropped points and we could profit, we failed:(
    Hope it's different this time.

LOL, Brobbey doesn't even start all the Ajax matches (though he should). Ajax put five past Noppert with ease.

Looks like Fraser is out at Utrecht for the dust up m with Younes

  9. Well, PSV just paid the 2 points penalty for selling Gakpo.
You can't as a board demand a title, while selling the goals and assists in the winterbreak.
Curious how Feyenoord will cope with those important injuries. Time to throw a U21 into the lion's den?
Ajax with a seemingly easy opponent could be the unexpected one to profit from the after winterbreak woes of the competition.

Ajax are very thin on the back line right now though Alvarez can cover at CB. They basically have only 18 reliable first team players. It will be interesting to see if Rulli takes over at GK. Ajax spent too much money to have him sitting on the bench and he was the starter at Villareal.

I already don't give much for the opinions of van Hanegem, but this is one hell of a stupid take.
Has he taken in the stats of Gakpo for PSV and how the loss of that is going to impact the title chances for them? Hasnot he any recollection of the same situation, but then with PSV on top of the league and ending as 3d after selling their topscorer in the winterbreak?
Go into a retirement home and stfu, mr van Hanegem.

Column Willem van Hanegem | Ruud van Nistelrooij, why do you say that?
Of the entire left row, only FC Twente managed to win this weekend. Enough material for Willem van Hanegem for his weekly column. "I don't understand why Ruud van Nistelrooij says that the chance of the title has become much smaller now that Cody Gakpo is gone." Some are saying if Schreuder doesnot win the FC Twente match, he's done.
Seriously? Have these people watched FC Twente play the last few matches and looked at their talents on the pitch?
Ajax dropped two points against NEC, not because of Schreuder, but because of chances missed that should have been at least two goals.
And then a points loss against a strong team is going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back?

I have too say I'm impressed with eiting at Volendam. Injuries really hampered his development at Ajax. Hope he hits back to his very best. 5 assists so far

  14. When football isnot the most important thing anymore.
SC Cambuur away fans expressed their empathy and sympathy with an Emmen supporter who lost his daughter at the age of 14.
Glad that in this world of sometimes rampant supporter violence this expression of condolence exists too.

LOL, three FC Twente players make the team of the week in a goalless draw against a 10 man opponent.

  16. It's quite unfortunate for AZ that central defender Beukema is out for several weeks with a knee injury. They already miss Martins Indi.

  17. Feyenoord stil 5 points ahead, but the opposition is strong atm. Ajax plays rather erratic quality wise the last few months, but have a relatively easy run of matches coming up..
In the next 4 weeks Feyenoord has PSV and AZ at home and FC Twente away, the current top 2, 3 and 4 teams..

The five teams might finish within a couple of points at the end of the season. As is often the case, it will come down to the final match day. This is what makes the Eredivisie so much fun to watch

  19. Sucks for AZ. They in a week's time did lose two strong holders, attacker Dani de Wit and central defender Sam Beukema, while Martins Indi is still injured.
