Thrilling fight for survival: Telstar climbs back to fifteenth place, chance for FC Volendam The sting of the battle in the lower regions of the VriendenLoterij premier league is in the tail. Telstar will visit FC Volendam with direct enforcement at stake. Volendam must win to avoid play-offs, Telstar needs a draw.
21634 Great! First of all I think coach Anthony Correia deserves it by having Telstar play attractive football and being the only one beating Peter Bosz'es PSV twice this season. Second thing is I hate Volendam (just like I hate Totally Hotshits and FC Utrecht since the early 1970ies) and want them to relegate asap, once they return in the Eredivisie. So this might be the first time I actually can see two of them, SC Volendam and Tottenham Hotspurs, relegate. I'm of course not happy Correia moving to FC Utrecht, rather had seen him at AZ, but you can't have all you want.
comments on Ajax fitness: 'They still took a point. Well done', Kenneth Perez begins very cynically at This Was The Weekend. 'They know what to do and I didn't see any of that. I understand that, because they don't have the strength for it. Klaassen and Berghuis. How can you take them off? Well, they just couldn't do it anymore. They were gone.' 'They were late everywhere in the last twenty minutes, large spaces everywhere, or put pressure, then not. This was an Ajax that had to score a goal with fifteen minutes to go: they just fell back in their own half. So they don't have the power to chase them up and force mistakes. They wanted to do something in the counter, but this was really sad to watch. There was no awareness and strength at all.' Arnold Bruggink sees a big contrast when he looks at other teams in the Eredivisie. 'When you see Schreuder at NEC, who has completely changed that intensity in a short time.' Perez immediately responds. 'That should have happened at Ajax a year ago in the summer. You will have to, because if you don't do it, you can't compete in the Eredivisie, let alone in Europe. There are more trainers who can do that. Twente has that too, but at Ajax they haven't been able to do it this summer. The players who have been brought in don't stand for that either. They just couldn't put pressure on Heerenveen. They have failed in all ranks.'
21686 Schedule for the Play offs: Play-offs promotion/relagation Wensday 20 mei (18.45 uur): Willem II - FC Volendam Saturday 23 mei (20.00 uur): FC Volendam - Willem II European football play-offs Thursday 21 May (6.45 pm): A: Ajax - FC Groningen (in Volendam) Thursday 21 May (21.00 hrs): B: FC Utrecht - SC Heerenveen Sunday 24 May (18.00 hrs): Winner A - Winner B (in Volendam or Groningen)
The number of goals against of the top 5 is ridiculous. How many matches did they realize a clean sheet? For next season these 5 really need to address the defensive leaks.
Did not know he is replacing Ron Jans. I think Correia is a decent manager and it will be interesting to see how he does at Utrecht.
Klaassen and Berghuis should not even be starting. Klaassen had at least five bad touches in the first half. All he does these days is wave players around and doesn't realize he no longer has the ability to defend anyone. To be fare, they were playing under monsoon conditions. You could not pass along the ground at all as the ball would just die. Even so, Carrizo got off a couple of shots late (I don't know why he isn't starting, he's a player that looks to score) this is what Farioli did when he took over. I watched a lot of the pre-season friendlies and he was on the sideline yelling at players to mover up and press. Heitinga just stood there with his arms folded. Grim was no better (he started Klaassen every game). Garcia was at least honest in his assessment of how bad things are.
22000 Personnel problems for Ajax in the hunt for Europe: three defenders are missing against FC Groningen One goal. That would have been enough on Sunday to avoid the play-offs. That goal didn't fall. Ajax finishes fifth after a disappointing season and is condemned to the play-offs - played in the Kras Stadium, because Harry Styles occupies the Arena. Groningen awaits on Thursday (6:45 p.m.) in a charged duel in which Ajax will have to do without Takehiro Tomiyasu, Josip Sutalo and Ko Itakura, due to injuries.
22028 Huge mistakes Willem II give FC Volendam a good starting position. Blunders kill Willem II in Tilburg: FC Volendam with a lead to return of the final play-offs It is anything but a dream start for Willem II. The Tilburg team lost the first game in the final of the play-offs to FC Volendam at home due to two major personal errors. An outlier by Nick Doodeman limited the damage and ensured that promotion is not out of sight.
