Feyenoord desperately looking for control in sticky away game against Fortuna. Today Robin has to deal with the fact he hasnot got midfielders left.
Thanks to a stupid foul on Wellenreuther resulting in a red card we clinched 3 points in what must be the deciding win for the CL spot. The AZ match vs FC Twente decides if there's one challenger left, because if FC Twente manages to beat AZ, they're 4 points behind Feyenoord, with 6 points to go.
FC Twente has started the crucial duel at AZ in Alkmaar FC Twente knows what the competition has done. The floor is now up to John van den Brom's team. Will the Tukkers strike an important blow in the battle for European football at AZ on Sunday? With a win, they at least grab pole position for the 3d spot. NEC and Ajax have to burn some candles to have AZ halt the "ms Johan Neeskens" club in it's tracks.
20376 10' Error Owusu-Oduro A few minutes ago, the AZ goalkeeper shot the ball out sloppily. Now he just hands the ball to Van den Belt. The Twente midfielder passes the ball to Lammers, who makes hands and is therefore whistled back. He was a very promising goalie, but this and last season made some very slppy performances and rooky mistakes. 13' 1-0 GOAL by Jordy Clasie! Good old Jordy...they missed him sorely this season. With him AZ could have challenged for the spot 2 and 3.
Oh dear: 25' AZ goalkeeper escapes with a scare The third time that Owusu-Oduro makes a mistake. He wants to receive the ball, but lets the ball slip under his foot. With an onrushing Twente player, the AZ goalkeeper manages to clear the ball. 32' 1-1 Own goal by Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro! Thirteen seconds earlier, AZ striker Parrott missed a great opportunity. Rots cleared the ball off the line. In the counter, it is Twente that strikes right away. Lammers wants to pass the ball and AZ goalkeeper Owuso-Oduro is on it. He puts the ball into his own goal.
20468 AZ Alkmaar - FCTwente full time And then it still goes wrong for FC Twente. A few seconds before time, it becomes 2-2
Remaining matches for the 2nd and 3d spot Feyenoord needs 2 points (= two draws) to keep NEC behind, supposing NEC wins these two last games, with Groningen still a play off spot within reach Ajax needs two wins to compete for the 2nd and 3d spot, but coming sunday isnot an easy task to realize that. FC Twente needs the 6 points to keep themselves in the running for the 2nd/3d spot, just like Ajax, but against PSV might be 3 points in the bag as we've seen how they were against Ajax. So, all in all coming sunday, depending on how Feyenoord does against AZ, is setting up the stage for the last match for either 4 clubs going into the last round with still a chance for the 2nd spot (Feyenoord draw or defeat against AZ), or the prize is cut back to the 3d spot (Feyenoord win against AZ).
AZ are already in Europe but I don't think they can finish 3rd as they have a poor goal difference which is the tie breaker. 4th place goes into Europa League qualification round so the play offs will be places 5 - 9 (leaving out AZ). One of NEC, Ajax or Twente have secured a playoff spot. Heerenveen are also in at 50 points. That leaves Utrecht, Sparta, and Groningen competing for the last two spots. Don't know that Groningen can get it done as they have dropped two matches in a row and have a must win game against NEC next week to keep within distance of Sparta who go to Twente. Match Day 33 will be quite interesting!!
20594 Anyway Passportgate closed. NAC didnot get the tumbs up from the court, as that ruled in favour of the KNVB.
It is the best decision considering the circumstances with the World Cup so close and season coming to an end, replay is very difficult. Had it been the first few weeks of the season it can be changed. It is just some clubs/players do not understand the implications and the correct process after (getting proper work permits). FIFA penalized Malaysia (losing 0-3 for matches that those players played) for naturalized 7 players incorrectly (1 Dutch players).
20810 Is it decided this Sunday, or are we going into a nerve wrecking last matchday? NEC is preparing for the apotheosis of the season. The Nijmegen team will visit FC Groningen on Sunday in the penultimate round of play. Coach Dick Schreuder expects a difficult match in De Euroborg.
Thrilling battle for place 3 and plenty of tension at the bottom: you can't miss these duels on the penultimate matchday Two more rounds of play to go in the Eredivisie and so the tension rises to boiling point. AD Sportwereld rated the matches with stars for expected importance and thrills: For Ajax, the last two rounds of the season will be crucial. Places 1 and 2 – which entitle them to direct qualification for the Champions League – have disappeared from view. But in order to end a turbulent season on a good note, the Amsterdam team must finish third. That place entitles them to participate in the preliminary round of the Champions League. The current fourth place would provide a ticket for 'only' the Europa League. But it can always be worse: if Ajax drops to place 5, then the record champion is condemned to play in the European play-offs for a Conference League ticket. In the battle for third place, NEC is Ajax's main competitor. Coach Dick Schreuder's team is currently in third place and has one point more than both Ajax and FC Twente. This means that the people of Nijmegen have it completely in their own hands. Still, the hangover from the lost cup final against AZ has not yet been fully processed, as was also evident last weekend when it was only 1-1 at home against Telstar. With FC Groningen, NEC will not meet an opponent who is going well towards the end of the competition. The home team is currently tenth and still has to climb a spot to participate in the play-offs for a European ticket. FC Twente had the third place up for grabs last weekend, but against AZ a lead was squandered deep in injury time. It means that the Tukkers are still fifth, with the same number of points as number 4 Ajax. The difference in goal difference is small, so a big win would be welcome for coach John van den Brom. To be able to finish third, a mistake by NEC is required. But Sparta will not come to Enschede to roll out the red carpet. The Rotterdammers are ninth and must hold on to that position to make it to the European play-off. Of course, second place behind the unapproachable champion PSV is very important, yet we only give this match three stars. The relief after the hard-fought victory over Fortuna said it all on Sunday: the direct ticket to the Champions League can hardly escape Feyenoord. Robin van Persie's team can decide the battle on Sunday, by winning at home against AZ, which as cup winner is already certain of European football. The lead on NEC is five points, with two matches to go. If it doesn't work out next weekend, Feyenoord will have a second chance a week later against PEC Zwolle. Perhaps just a little less appealing than the hunt for the preliminary round of the Champions League, but the tension at the bottom is also high. Heracles has been relegated and the curtain seems to have fallen for NAC as well, but the number 16 can also still descend. That club will play a two-part match against the winner of the play-offs in the Kitchen Champion Division at the end of this month. So Excelsior, Telstar and FC Volendam (the numbers 14, 15 and 16) do everything they can to finish above the dreaded line. And let two of those rivals, Excelsior and FC Volendam, face each other on Sunday. The Kralingers have a margin of three points and therefore also do good business in the event of a draw, Volendam must take risks. "Not relegating wit Telstar is better than a championship." Those are the words of national coach Ronald Koeman, whose son is under the bar with this season's stunt team. But Telstar – which, like FC Volendam, is on 31 points – is absolutely not safe yet. A home game against the already ingloriously relegated Heracles is the ideal opportunity to take a big step towards survival.
