Is it wrong, insane, bold, or ok to change one's support for a LESS successful club? You know the opposite of gloryhunting. You could apply it to any league. Just curious.
Hmmmm....Depends on what the reason is. Usually you'd have a compelling reason to support a small club. Ties with the city/region of said club, first game you ever attended, something like that........
yes it is wrong if you were born in a town/city that has a pro team to support. you stick with a club from birth to death..through thick and thin. You don't continue to shop around until you find one that you like Were you born in a town that has no pro team? pick one and stick with it even though I have to admit that Arsenal is my 2nd fav. team but only as long as Bergkamp plays there. Bergkamp retires I no longer care about Arsenal.
It depends on what you mean by "support"? Do you mean change your favorite team every year? Or do you mean support lesser teams too and you change which one of those you like every year? I change the teams I support all the time (not my favorites). I used to like the Baltimore Ravens, but I've now became a Houston Texans fan (but the Packers are my all time favorites). Just because you're from a city doesn't mean you have to support them. For example, I live in Detroit, but I hate the Red Wings. I'm not a Lions fan either (obviously). Am I a bad person for not supporting my local team?
I think its ok to have a 2nd favorite club, who you dont really support but just like to see them play and win etc. For me, Im a big PSV fan, but I also always liked Vitesse. Of course the last few years they are going not so good, but I feel some symphaty with the club. Of course, its nothing compared to my love for PSV
To me it's unthinkable to switch allegiance full stop. I'll support Twente always, whether they're relegated or win the CL (as if the latter'll ever happen). That said there are advantages to supporting a lowly club. Losing, filing for bankruptcy and similar drama creates a greater bond between supporters than always winning.
