I think Jesse makes the squad for this match. I'd have him over Juan. Lingard looked sharp. He was very unlucky not to have a goal. He was a part of several good moves. I don't know that he's the type of RW we need with AWB as our RB, but he's better at interplay than Mase so if Greenwood is our RW starter this season, I wouldn't mind having a change of pace backup who can get more involved in build up.
i'm confused by your love for lingard. he's just not very good at this football thing. we've been down this road with clev, ando, welbeck, evans... their true level was revealed when united finally dumped them. hope we can do the same with lingard and pereira.
The only thing with Lingard is that he's had an absolutely horrendous year, and we're far too quick to ignore factors like that. I am far more willing to give him one more season on that basis. But not to the extent that VDB wouldn't walk straight into the team ahead of him at the 10 slot. I'd have wanted to phase Lingard out anyway.
If you watched the preseason game and didn't think he was our best attacker on the night I don't know what to say to you. Jesse is an excellent footballer. High ball IQ, tremendous engine, superb presser and highly adaptable and also able/willing to do a job tactically. He's an excellent player to have as a rotation/squad player. He'd be one of my first off the bench in the current squad and a certain starter when we are looking to rotate 2 or 3 players. He's not a game changer and he's highly reliant on the system around him, but he's really good at maximizing his ability.
This all depends on his mindset. I had no idea until last season that he was such a confidence player.
So, NBC has no coverage whatsoever of the Premier League today until the 3:00 EST Arsenal/West Ham match.
Every other league/broadcaster is almost exclusively streaming already, so there isn’t really an alternative that would be any better. I think it the PL will be back to normal next weekend, they’re trying to get subscribers and it’s the last weekend of the Tour de France.
Except for James, I'm fine with this team vs Palace. Still should be more than good enough to take care of them. And it's not nice that Ole is not taking unnecessary risks with players who may not be 100% (in AWB's case for instance). Will hope that the replacements coming in will hold their own and justify Ole's faith in them. Must take in all the points today, no matter what. 🔉 Ole explains today's team selection ahead of our #PL opener...#MUFC #MUNCRY https://t.co/nEqiZrPs76 pic.twitter.com/cnYDXHU7MT— Manchester United (@ManUtd) September 19, 2020
TFM must be forced through AWB fitness given threat from Zaha that side, I can only assume given that, that James considered better / more reliable help defensively than Mason. Safe to say that James not chosen over Mase for offensive reasons
First we don’t get Sancho and now I have to watch James be fast and useless all over the right side of the pitch. Great.
Ole says Mase, AWB, Matic solely out of starting team as not had any pre-season (said they only came back Monday).
Considering he lost his mind about him not resting, might just be an idea about easing him back in. Which would be an improvement from Ole.
So if I'm understanding this correctly, vdBeek has to play Scott McTominay out of the lineup if he wants to become a starter, is that correct??
