Whos the consensus CB target?

 

The reason we were getting carved open was Matic' positioning and his lack of mobility. Pogba is pushing up (but not unreasonably so) and Matic needed to stop the outlet ball from coming down the middle of the pitch. He was not able to press the ball and slow it down, prevent the pass down the middle of the field or force them to one side.

Fred's range and pace has seen him defend proactively up the pitch. He's pressing outside the box a full 30 yards higher than Matic would and the result is the defenders can play higher and we get to benefit from all our attackers being able to press if we turn the ball over.

 

It's hard to argue against Bruno being the best player in the league since his arrival.

 

I dunno about consensus but Upamacano should be.

 

Would be an expensive one with his club being Leipzig.

 

Bruno is definitely my new favorite.

 

My personal shortlist is: Konate, Upamecano or Badiashile. Koulibaly would be on the list also, if he was available for a reasonable price (not the case unfortunately).
Probably looking at 30mil or so for Badiashile. The RBL boys would probably be around 50, maybe 60 tops.

 

Was hoping Palace to help us out .. Shitty defending..

 

So need a CM, CB, RW and a backup 9. That is a big window. Not to mention replacing players if they move.

 

DM, CB, reserve striker, and RW.

Sancho is the big move, the rest will need to be shrewd signings.

How good does Pogba look now that he doesnt need to be relied upon to do everything in midfield and attack? Bruno Fernandes has transformed the team, I'm honestly shocked at how well he's done and I've seen him play for Sporting/Sampdoria etc for a long time.

 

Gomes could have done as much as Mata has done. We missed a trick to get his wages off the book.

 

That's who we should have paid 90M for.

 

Pogba not really at the races today.

 

Good news at least is that we have the ability to score in buckets now, even when we don't play all that well.

 

Would anyone be against giving Smalling another go if we cant get a CB?

 

Smalling was always a good option to have even in reserve. But I'd bet he would probably be a good partner to Mag.
