For those of us staying back to keep the home fires burning for the arrival of the 2004 MLS Cup Champions, an article was released revealing how the match will be shot. Here "...as well as [D.C. United head coach] Peter Nowak will wear a wireless microphone throughout the game." -This could prove to be very interesting. "Broadcast live nationally on ABC at 3:30 pm ET, the game will be shown around the world on ESPN International which reaches 175 countries. The game will also be viewable on American forces network, which reaches 177 countries, at all U.S. embassies and on all ships at sea." -This is nice to see happening.
it would do wonders for the league if the match was a real barn-burner with creative and flowing play by both sides. Then the world can see that our soccer isnt too shabby after all. If its a snoozer, then that will hurt MLS (or confirm for some people) as being seen as a lower-level league.
I see your point, although boring or exciting expanded coverage is great, period. Most folks that come to the match with the idea that "this is US soccer, it's gonna suck." won't care either way if it is boring or exciting. They will only be looking to point out faults. The fact a company is broadcasting it to 175 countries and overseas to troops on duty is great. DC will bring excitement, without a doubt.
I earnestly ask all DC fans staying here to make the trek to Bailey's (https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3545541&postcount=1) and help us achieve a boisterous critical mass of DC supporters. Definitely a case of the more the merrier. It's going to be a lot of fun and this is the last match until 2005. Let's close the year with a memorable event. GM
They should hook up Big Rob with a mic and a designated bleeper, they could sell uncensored dvds afterwards
Thanks GM! Yeah, I know for some of you its a haul to get into NoVa or DC, but please try and make it to Baileys! It's gonna be one hell of a good time! Guarunteed! As for the match itself, well I think the world is about to see that US Soccer, and MLS isn't the pansy league afterall. This is going to be an exciting match!
Does anyone know if the game will be televised in HD. I haven't seen anything yet. Would love it if ABC stepped up and delivered.
The game is on AFN? That is awesome! I should be able to watch next year. AFN didn't show the 2002 WC, so I am hoping to start a campaign for them to show WCQs next year. Watching them on DVD 2 weeks after the match just isn't the same.
That only matters if people watch. If only the true MLS die-hard fans watch like normal and it's a snoozer, it won't make that much of a difference. If people are tuning in to see Freddy's first Final, then you have a point.
I saw that too. I was definitely surprised,...and grateful. Fortunately, I'm back home now so I'll be able to watch the game without the satellite garble we get while underway. TS.
Would have been better if they did this with Hudson Though I would suppose that would involve FCC fines -dave
Ok, this is going to be a bit OT, but have you guys seen/heard the FSW broadcasts where they have the fans doing the commentating of some EPL matches? It's 1 part train wreck, 1 part hilarious. Perhaps we could talk to Comcast about something like this.
"Technology wise, we're going to be adding StroMotion, sponsored by Panasonic this year, in MLS Cup," said Cohen. Back in college (at least 1,000 years ago) I used to suffer from Stroh's motion, every weekend and quite a few week nights!
Oh god no!!! That was the dumbest thing I have ever seen (probably because I avoid ESPN for just this type of crap). Why must they ruin "the beautiful game" with Lucas-esque tricks?? On the bright side, maybe we'll get to hear JP tell Whine-All-Day to shut the hell up. -dave
I don't know. I liked it, really enables you to see how difficult some of the runs, passes, and angled shots are. I think it'll help the casual fan get more excited about some scoring plays. Some day, maybe they'll put chips in the players' shorts and they can draw the moving offside line on the screen Works good for the first down line in pointy-ball.
Can't answer that. But, do be sure to get a tape of last week's game. Wahoo! Just can't wait until tomorrow.
Armed Forces network will be airing it, so there will be a feed over Europe. Whether you can access it, of course, is another thing. GM
Well it beats using Stroh's Motion, I guess. Hope there is a big crowd at Bailey's tomorrow. That would be awesome.
