Thats not really my point, as it is now, yes we lose some but we still keep a vast majority who if good enough will play for England so as it stands you wouldn’t change anything but if and off course its hypothetical and not really serious but as a couple of Africans have recently suggested all African heritage players should play for their Country’s, then it’s a completely different story. From the FA’s perspective, why would they want to prioritise the development of players who wouldn’t even play for any of our youth teams, nevermind the seniors. It why what they say is not good for young players who are Duals.
It is a non starter because you cannot go into the process with preconceived views about an individual. You have to take each case on an individual basis. It is hard to answer this because the hypothetical argument is somewhat extreme. In the scenario you suggest you can’t just ban or ostracise kids from playing football.
Yeah it is an extremely hypothetical situation but would be a weird scenario of training up so many players who wouldn’t play for us. Yeah it would be horrible to see that sort of thing happening which in part is why I think it’s stupid of those two people in particular to suggest it.
🚨 Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli - top Chelsea prospect - signs scholarship terms + will move to pro contract when 17 in January. 16yo midfielder rejected many leading European clubs & pledged future to #CFC. England youth int’l also pursued by France @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/SmfIukOx4j— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) July 5, 2026 ‘Nicoll-Jazuli has featured internationally in England’s age-group setup, playing for his country’s Under-16s and Under-17s teams. Born in Sydney, he is also eligible to play for Australia, Sudan and France’.
Those sorts of tweets are just so blatantly instigated by agents. Nobody knows who Mahdi is. It's not worthwhile news to the overwhelming majority of fans. You expect it from Romano but I thought Ornstein had more integrity.
We losing duals to France in Rugby now as well. Two tries for Aaron Grandidier-Nkanang on his France debut. A curious case.Born and raised in Bromley.Picked up by Brive whilst he was studying at St Mary’s University… in Twickenham!— Nik Simon (@Nik_Simon88) July 11, 2026
There’s a few more dual French / English playing in France .., oil cowie plays for Toulon who could possibly represent England.
We have Kpoku also playing for Racing who could end up playing for France due to this crazy own goal rule of not selecting players playing in France. Only us English seem to have a bad habit of needlessly losing talents due to complacency.
For sure.. it’s a difficult one because it’s there for a reason but I would like to be able for us to call up the Willis brothers and kpoku
Only watched highlights from yesterday´s game but that tweet made me laugh regardless Is Olise deliberately missing all of these because he's English?— Alfie | HITC Sevens (@HITCSevens) July 18, 2026
After his Semi Final performance, I'd imagine the hype and Madrid links for Olise have softened. It would be interesting to get a feeling of the general perception of him in France. At least he finished below England, so, so far his reason for picking France hasn't paid off!
Blake Philogene (Jaden's younger brother) made his debut for Antigua and Barbuda at the U20 CONCACAF Championship yesterday. Previously represented England at U16 level
I'm heared comments that Shaqueel van Persie has the option to chose England as national team, but don't get why. Dunno if it's correct though.
Ah, okay. Does that simple fact, although both his parents were Dutch nationals, make him eligible? Anyway, he's showing huge potential. Maybe the coach should show interest?
Under FIFA's rules a player is eligible to play for a national team if they meet any of the following criteria: a) were born in said nation, b) have at least one parent or grandparent born in said nation, c) have lived in said nation for at least five years after the age of 18. Only one of these conditions needs to be met. On top of that the player must be eligible for citizenship under said nation's laws. Britain does not do birthright citizenship but Shaqueel seems to have lived in England until he was around 9, which would make him eligible for a passport (if he doesn't have it already) because RVP likely achieved settled status in the UK during that time. I don't think you've anything to worry about though personally. When a player's father was a legend of the national team it's always highly likely they'll follow in their footsteps. If he's good enough it's more than likely he'll play for the Netherlands imo.
You would be surprised if he switched to Morocco since his dad is a legend for the Dutch but then again one of Darren Fletcher’s kids plays for England so what do I know.
Nope, he has said he hasnot made up his mind, but his dad and mum tell him to follow his feelings. To me that means he has more feelings towards the Netherlands and England, as that's where his growing up (football-)memories lie. Morocco only has holidays memories.
Anyway when/if UEFA quit FIFA we might get very different rules for international switching. The smaller UEFA nations might have to just accept tougher rules
I remember RVP doing an interview and laughing about how his kids (having been raised in a Dutch household) would come home from school and speak to him in very English way.. Although at the end of his career, he moved back to Holland. So the only circumstances I can see his son representing another country, is if he's not quite good enough to play for the Dutch team and makes a 2nd option switch. Which is something we now see happening all the time in international football. I also expect Morocco to become very aggressive in their pursuit of him, whilst he remains officially eligible to switch to them.
