Born in Durham. Already capped by them at U21 level. 🇦🇲 Congratulations to Finn Geragusian on receiving his first-ever senior call-up to the Armenian national team!Thoroughly deserved, Finn! 🙌 pic.twitter.com/5Kt9LgaiW5— SAFC Academy (@AcademyOfLight) March 6, 2026
Wales in talks with Ashley Phillips regarding a switch Wales want Tottenham centre-back Ashley Phillips to join them for World Cup play-offs. 20yo Stoke loanee capped by 🏴 U16s before representing 🏴 age grade teams. Talks taken place over switch, if Phillips agrees straight into Craig Bellamy squad next week 🏴 🇧🇦 pic.twitter.com/OsOQ9LHS6P— Phil Blanche 🏴 (@philblanche) March 9, 2026
Won’t he have to file a switch? Would that even happen that quick? Would be a blow to lose him. The current U21 group is not the strongest at all.
Assuming Phillips doesn't feel passionately Welsh given he's represented us for the last few years, this would be quite a short sighted move for him at this stage imo. He's one of the best young CBs in the country and has a solid chance of becoming an England international one day. Fair play either way because it's his decision ultimately, but it feels a bit premature for him to declare for Wales.
The difference between the Scots and Welsh is the Scots have some morals. A lot of them didn't want Barnes because he was gatecrashing the world cup. The Taff's will take anyone on with open arms because they're scroungers. Yet another nation looks at one of their players. They throw a hissyfit
Given he played for Wales early on, and has since been with England since, it makes most sense for him to see out the 21s campaign and then decide on his future. Ah just seen, they want him to go straight into the full squad for the WC playoff, he probably has a decision to make then.
Phillips’ mother is Welsh. So it is a pretty strong connection. He’s rejected them before though and I doubt they can get a confirmation for switching nationality in time for the next meet up. Looks like it has come off the back of Phillips playing in Wales against Swansea at the weekend. Either Bellamy was there or some journalist has maybe asked Phillips.
The Phillips link seems more similar to the Moore one earlier in the season which didn't amount to anything. Could be wrong of course, but i'd be surprised if he switched at this point given he's a regular with the under 21's. A world cup spot might be tempting but as it is it is fairly unlikely for Wales to make it.
Looks like Carney Chukuwuemeka has filed his one time switch. https://knowledge.fifa.com/change-of-association-platform
That’s a shame but it’s expected I guess! He was once so highly rated and talented but I guess poor career choices but more importantly unfortunate injuries took its toll. No where near our senior team sadly for him and he no doubt knows it. Now I’ve said that, watch him kick on over the next few years and become a World beater…..
If you add up Chukwuemeka’s total minutes in league games at senior level it equates to less than 20 full 90 minute matches. Pretty wild when he made his debut in 2021.
Austrian law tends to require him having to give up his British citizenship to regain his Austrian one so if he has done that that’s some commitment. Through Austria have been known to have sporting exemptions to citizenship law. Can see this being a damaging month for switches.
I wonder what he thinks about that move to Chelsea. So much lost development time in the last few years. Maybe he still will, but he could've gone so far. There's a lesson there for Josh Acheampong. When your age group peers are get way more developmental minutes than you between the ages of 17-20, it must be hard to make up the ground if you miss out on them.
If they've spent months trying to get him to switch to Austria, I very much doubt they made him revoke this British citizenship.
Chukwuemeka is a very unfortunate one to lose so young, probably the most talented of the under 19 winning squad, and yet has probably played the least senior minutes of all of them. More than likely he won't be the player he had the potential to be but there's a lot of talent there. Surprised he Dortmund move hasn't worked out better for him. He is probably someone who should have been a box to box midfielder but never really got cultivated properly for that role.
I can't see Philips opting for Wales at this stage. They've no chance of getting to the world cup and I wouldn't be surprised if they failed to qualify for the next euros
Completely agree. When he was on loan last season he's been really good in a more central role but ever since they bought Bellingham, Kovac tries to mold him into an attacking midfielder with underwhelming results. Ironically, I feel like his ceiling in central midfield might be a lot higher than Jobe's (at least for now).
My reservations with Chukuwemeka were that his attributes don't really lend themselves to being a specialist in any of the roles in modern football. Not quite a CM and not quite an AM. That said, I think injuries have really undermined his progress.
Because Euro 2028 is co hosted by Wales they have a pretty good chance. Two of the four home nations babe reserved placed should they not qualify by right. Scotland are good enough to most likely join us in making it by right so Wales and Republic of Ireland will more likely fill those two spots. And if 3 need those spots Wales might be above Ireland anyway.
I find so amusing when the celtic nations get into a frenzy over a dual player linked with them ie Moore, Barnes, Philips and these players say thanks but no thanks. Their tears are like nectar to me
