I think the FA are likely quite aware of that. He's already had a second chance by a) not losing his girlfriend and having a child with her and b) resuming his football career at an elite European club. Playing for England is a luxury he doesn't deserve, I don't think there's a convincing moral argument in favour of him coming back.
Is it hugely different to when Terry racially abused anton Ferdinand and was allowed back into the England team
I have a hard time believing that a player who had withdrawn himself from England selection indefinitely before any of this case emerged is suddenly holding out for England, who realistically are never going to select him. No one is going to want to invite that shitshow, which even if you were thinking purely pragmatically, is in a position England are so well stocked in. If he is even claiming this now, I imagine it would be to turn down Jamaica who he seems to have been stringing along because it sounds a better reason than he can't be bothered. Terry was never called up for England again after the FA found him guilty, and even then what Greenwood was accused of was a whole other level of severity!
Greenwood is now almost exclusively an right sided attacking midfielder or modern winger. We’ve got Saka, Foden, Palmer, Madueke, Bowen and surely Dowman in the next couple of years in that position. Does he even get in the squad on merit right now?
The only way Greenwood ever plays for England again is if he were to become one of the best players in the world and then he'd have to do some sort of TV interview probably with his missus to explain what happened and even then the the outcry would be massive. He was clearly a massive prick when he was at Man Utd. I mean the way he behaved at his first England callup shows that. I doubt we'll ever see him in an England shirt again.
Yeah I doubt it also. Not sure if he’s just being a prick to Jamaica or he’s been encouraged to hold out for England. My guess would be the former
I think he’ll hold out for a couple of years, I suspect he’ll be looking for a move to the PL or one of the Spanish big two as the next part of his attempt to get back in.
Going back to the Premier League would be ill advised I would have thought, he will be a walking target at every game he plays, hell even the fans of the team he plays for would probably revolt.
France and the Dutch have some more high profile DR Congo eligible options that might be asked to switch.
Sorry I did mean play off but in my head I am pretty much expecting them to qualify now because they look much better than their potential opponents.
Feels like Harvey Barnes is going to end up switching to Scotland before the World Cup. https://www.skysports.com/football/...ional-team-switch-to-scotland-isnt-closed-off
Only reason would be due to them qualifying for the World Cup otherwise I doubt he would be interested. Hope Scotland don’t ask him, just simply not fair on their players who got them there.
Here’s the clip Harvey Barnes states that he has not thought about potentially playing for Scotland following on from a dramatic 4-2 win over Denmark to secure World Cup qualification 🏴 pic.twitter.com/UaBDTpClzf— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) November 19, 2025
After Elliot Anderson Steve Clark hasn’t gone chasing options that have been passive about switching. Pretty sure he had said as much in interviews. That interview might leave the door closed.
It’s going to happen! I don’t know who will approach who but I know Barnes will be playing for Scotland at the World Cup. Typical mercenary who only declares when they qualify for something. It has the same kinda feel as the jack Charlton Ireland days.
Barnes might very well think he still has a chance with England. He'll likely feel as though he's outperforming Gordon for Newcastle in which case logically, he'll have a solid chance to make the squad. I don't think he does but a pro footballer with immense self belief probably thinks differently.
You always think these things will happen. I don’t know what it is with the dual national issues but some people end up with extremely fixed views based on very little.
It might depend on whether he’s on Tuchel’s larger squad short list that Tuchel has mentioned a few times. "Players that are on our long list, 55, 60 players, to reach out to them, be in touch with them, explain to them why they were not here. Explain to them what they have to do, where they can improve. "Can they even do something or is it just a choice, so this is my job in the next weeks and months.” You would assume he would be on that but it might go quickly to U21 options in his position. Who knows. He’s definitely been holding out for England recognition. Whether it lasts is anyone’s guess.
TalkSPORT really pushing the Barnes to Scotland agenda. Not really sure why other than maybe there’s not much other news out there.
