They spoke to his parents who backed up his version of events and came to conclusion he was not guilty of the crimes he was accused of. He can't come out and discuss it in public as his girlfriend/fiancee/mother of his children doesn't want him to, as it may be a matter of embarrassment for her , its as simple as that so he is effectively gagged. It can be discussed with him in private though which is what the FA should do
I am not sure it’s worth the FA facing a major backlash even doing such an investigation. He is not that good. If we don’t have a striker then playing without one while not ideal can work if the right players are used
You seem to have this view of Tuchel as some kind of nonconformist, I’m pretty sure Tuchel is pretty good at reading the room and will do what he feels is right. Calling someone up that will divide opinion, to say the least, won’t be something he would currently do.
We tried playing without a striker with our best other attacking players and it was a catastrophe and not an experiment worth repeating. We have also lost out already on Lookman, Musiala and Olise amongst others to other nations, who would all be worth a place in our squad at least. The FA would be foolish to shoot themselves in the foot by pushing Greenwood away too for the sake of not wanting to cause a stir
Hopefully he is rather than someone who thinks only on footballing terms and doesn’t take into account the unique circumstances of him.
Do you actually even yourself think the reason he won't come forward with evidence that exhonerates himself is it would be a matter of embarrassment for his partner? Much better for his future child to grow up with everyone thinking his father is a rapist, i'm sure.... He's literally leaving tens of millions in future salaries, sponsorships on the table, unable to work in his home country all because he doesn't want to cause embarassment? I could at least understand the amoral view that ultimately Greenwood is a free man in the eyes of the law, that people don't ultimately care about the character of the athletes and it shouldn't be an important factor in picking them. I mean, I don't agree, but I would understand it. But the convoluted "he's actually innocent, gave evidence to the club, he's just doesn't want anyone to know it and refuses to defend himself publicly" is so convoluted and unbelievable its difficult to believe even the people who claim it actually believe it.
Surely the FA also have to try and not make the squad a toxic circus in which player’s presence entirely dominates the entire 10 days.
Just to add also, Greenwood has almost exclusively in his senior career played as a right winger. He's not really a "striker", nor I suspect, ever likely to be a proper centre forward. He doesn't really have the characteristics of a modern day lone centre forward. Even without his troubles it seems very unlikely he'd have been the answer to a post Kane world.
That’s true but an article in the Times last year I think did say the FA were planning for him to succeed Kane.
He came through as a striker and can play on the left as well so gives different options and would be ideal to have on the bench. He's better suited to the centre forward role than other wingers/number 10's we have. His best position is right wing though
Ok to put it another way his girlfriend doesn't appear to want to have the awkwardness and embarrassment of having the matter discussed in public (despite having originally made it very public in the most blatant manner possible she went very quiet after that) so he has been told not to and therefore does not out of respect for her and his relationship. I'm sure he'd love to be able to put his side of events out to clear his name and ironically if he had not got back with her may well have been able to do so by now.
So, Mason Greenwood is so selfless and caring towards the needs of his wife that he refuses to publicly contest the audio evidence of him forcing himself upon her lol.
I wouldn't say selflessness is the motive If it would cost him his relationship and staying with his family then it wouldn't necessarily be in his self interest to speak up over it
You are extremely creative with your narratives in this thread but they all go in the exact same direction. Merely a constant aggressive need to keep and maintain all dual nationals regardless of any individual context or circumstances.
There will be no walk back. Get over it. We have plenty better right sided forwards anyway. Don’t want Greenwood taking minutes off Saka, Palmer, Foden, Madueke and in future Nwaneri and Dowman. I care little for his good performances in Europe’s 6th ranked league and the stats still show he’s one of the laziest and most entitled players in the game. Talented with the ball but an all round bad egg that we don’t need.
I said this on here a few months back. After having a search though I found some quotes where he said he's made up his mind and won't go back on it. A shame because he's a really nice striker profile.
His mum is Bosnian but he was born and raised in London. A quote from a NY Times article very much makes it sound like a case of his dad wanting him to go in a certain direction: “When we sat down and decided which route was for me, I feel just as English as I do Danish or Bosnian,” he says, “so it was a real flip of a coin, and my dad had a big influence on my career. “It felt like the most natural decision. I don’t feel more Danish or less English. That was a football decision. Outside of football, my family is still Danish. I still visit them in Denmark, still have Christmas on the 24th, all that Danish culture has stayed the same.” EDIT: From a different interview: “I think it has something to do with my relationship with my father. He was the one who got me started in football in the first place. “So it’s probably about making him and that side of the family proud... “There is no chance of me changing it. This is my final decision.” Definitely a dad thing.
Lad that’s just been brought on for Chelsea, Ato Ampah, commentator said hes Ghanaian but my app says English. Was just curious as who is correct but I suspect English raised with Ghanaian heritage.
Ghana born but played for England youth this year. Commentator is likely going off Chelsea’s website synopsis.
Its 5th best ranked league in Euro (as confirmed on UEFA ratings) and the FA had no hesitation picking Gomes who has been fairly mediocre for Lille this season so they can certainly pick Greenwood who has been outstanding, same as France managed to somehow find a place in their squad last season for the world's best player who happened to be playing in this league. Certainly the best or 2nd best player in France is performing better than the 110th best or whatever Foden is this season. If we want to be best in the world and win the world cup we need to pick our best players, not just the ones you like most. At least he deserves a chance same as any other player. Manchester United don't believe he was guilty of what he was accused of, the accuser herself and her family definitely don't appear to think he is guilty so people who know nothing of the full situation aren't in a position to judge him. He's one of the best English footballers out there and he would be an asset to the team
FA don’t pick the team the manager does except for when it would be them being summoned to defend such a decision which they would for Greenwood. It’s them not Tuchel who would have to answer questions from Politicians and Sponsors. His presence would also likely destroy all the work that been done to make the team popular again And once that’s gone it can take a long while to rebuild it.
All it takes is a few minutes of research to understand what reactions are typical of victims of abuse. It's extremely common for victims of any sort of abuse to withdraw charges, fail to turn up to court to testify, or not even press charges in the first place. I don't know if you're being naive or you just don't care what he's done, but we all heard what we heard. It's beyond damning and there's no two ways about that. It's pure cope and denialism to pretend he's in any way innocent.
Probably the worst way to come to such a conclusion. The Queen was convinced Andrew wasn't a wrongun and Chris Kaba's parents thought he was a good boy. It's understandable but parents are often very deluded when it comes to their children. They shouldn't and won't. Give it up. Well at least he is't doing the whole 'can't wait to destroy England' schtick that our defectors to Wales seem too.
