Is Horis referring to Lusale or JJ Gabriel? I think he answered using the quote you said about Lusale.

 

I can't find anything online from a reputable source that says he was born in Brazil. Either way he's likely lived here for the majority of his life and will have a passport since his Dad was born and raised here.

Sounds like he's quite the talent, everyone who watches him seems to rave about him. Hopefully we get him involved in the setup early doors.

I'm talking about JJ Gabriel.

 

I might be wrong but I believe his strongest links (aside from England) are to Cyprus.

 

Do you know what his actual links to Brazil are?

 

I've got no idea, I don't think there are any.

As someone else pointed out it's probably just because of his name but it's possible (and this is a guess) that 'Gabriel' is the anglicized version of a Greek name.

Interesting, seems like he only joined Barcelona in January from a local Catalan club. The U19s have Meghoma, Samuels-Smith and Joe Johnson who are all quite well established, but certainly one to keep an eye on.

 

I found this guy a couple of months back but didn't think much of him since he's never been capped by Spain either. I didn't realise how recently he'd joined Barca though so that probably explains why.

 

People born in Ireland can come here, but not until they turn 18..

So if you're a young footballer in Ireland aspiring to make it pro, you will have to rely on all your coaching /development from the Irish football system all the way until 18 before you can make any move to an English club.

Therefore a lot of Irish young players coming through are not up to the standard because they can't come over at 15 like they used to, missing out on key years of development at English academies (a lot used to receive)

 

That would be an interesting one if he reaches international level. I suspect he won't. I''d imagine he'd play for Spain if he did, it would be novel to see someone with such an English name in their side.

 

They’ll just have to have their own professional league.

 

Ireland are largest Country by Population, to never have a team in the Champions League group stage. Probably the worst league per capita in Europe, especially when you consider its a rich country with a long standing history in football.

 

Football isn't part of the sporting day to day though. The combined attendance at all LOI matches weekly is between 25 & 30 thousand people. Of the 32 counties, every one has a GAA stadium which holds at least 20 thousand. The bigger county ones hold 50 / 60 thousand. The national one holds 82 thousand. There's your sporting day to day DNA, like football is in other countries.

Then there's rugby, the provinces are successful, so is the national side. People like success so they tag along.

Of the 22 League of Ireland clubs, most to this day are located in former British garrison towns & cities from 100 years ago where it grew some roots. The game doesn't have that countrywide footprint & presence.

There's interest in the MNT matchday but not really in the age groups under that. The game is an afterthought on the sporting landscape.

Then there's horse racing, which is like a religion.

So the interest & history is in little pockets here & there. The leadership were laughed at by the minister for sport recently in relation to a funding approach & most laughed along with him.

It just doesn't matter on the scale it does in England. If a football fixture & a GAA fixture clash at local / youth level, the football fixture has to move, or have no players, they'll play the GAA match. Every time. They like football but they are GAA DNA as people.

You're looking at it in a way Ireland simply doesn't. Truth is most of Ireland doesn't give a fcuk about it. They'll join in if the MNT is decent, for a bit, until its not.

 

Is Jon Rowe elligible for Jamaica?

 

I think he is. Which with Greenwood at Marseille is a bit of a concern.

 

Nah, if he has his heart set on playing for Jamaica then it is what it is. I doubt being friends with someone will sway him like that, especially if Rowe has some morals.Bit like Jude and Musiala being best mates didn’t stop him playing for Germany. Not sure I buy this idea of concern. If in the longer run he can’t break in then it’s more likely.

 

Southampton's Leo Rodella has been called into Italy's U17 side. Can't find what year group he is but he's 15 years old so he might be playing up a year for them. He was capped for our U15s a while back but I don't recall him being in any England squads in the past year.

Seems to be quite a few English-developed players in the Italian youth system now. From memory that must be 3-4 now.

 

But also our talent ID team needs to be on the game and when the next Olise comes around. We need to try and identify these talents early and get them into the system before we get beaten to it.

 

To be fair the lad mentioned has played for England but hasn't been involved recently. He may not be seen as good enough or he may not want to continue with us. There's no way of knowing.

 

As well as Rodella, Jayden Ngwashi (Man United), Cristiano Anah (Brighton) and Iddrisa Dauda (West Brom) have all been involved with Italy's '08s. Another one in Pantaleo Creti (Monza) is also English-eligible but he was born & raised in Italy.

With that being said none of Ngwashi, Anah or Dauda would probably make a full strength Italy squad at that age group.

 

I wonder if Italy have been doing a bit of promoting duals to keep them involved?
