A lot of the 1980’s and 1990’s players would have grown up with parents and grandparents who were tightly connected to the Irish community in England which doesn’t really exist in the same way nowadays.
I agree but it’s the fact they try and insult people’s intelligence by pretending to always feel Irish even though they waited until later in their careers to declare. Kilbane and breen I’ll accept but guys like aldridge and mcateer were well known England fans before they played for Ireland.
Phil Babb’s mother was Irish. Roy Keane was discussing the dual national issue and he said himself and his fellow Irish born players were always fine with it as long as the players were committed. So there is always an element of proving you are committed to your team and only your team etc. Most of the more recent comments have been from Welsh players attempting to display their ‘commitment’ to their nation. Kieffer Moore still has his Twitter post up about how proud he was to play for England C but when he was asked about it whilst a Wales player he said he can hardly remember it I don’t know why these things gripe at people though. It’s just a bit of pantomime type talk.

That list hints that the well is running dry for Ireland due to the decline in migration from Ireland to England. They'll have to hope that their mass immigration policy will yield some results.
They are also stuck because their best players can't come to England at 16 because of Brexit so miss 2 years in the elite academy system and spend that time in LOI instead
Not under Fifa transfer rules. But I am not sure what would happen if a family all moved together supposedly for one of the parents to get a job.
I think its pretty obvious what would happen, and not watertight, they would be reported to Fifa by other clubs for breach of rules.

I can’t see it. Even if he hits a great run of form he is just not a Carsley style defender. It does highlight Southgate’s pretty poor talent ID that he got called up to the seniors after really struggling at the very recent 2021 U21 finals.
I always had concerns about Southgate's talent ID when he continued picking Liam Moore in his U21 days.
Birmingham born John Mellberg starting for Red Bull Salzburg in the CL. Olof’s son. Obviously very unlikely to play for England but still interesting. Quite interesting to see so many kids of ex-pros making it in professional football. It has happened a lot in other sports. Players with good genes getting early high quality coaching. Maybe I’m exaggerating but it feels like a lot more kids are coming through from more privileged backgrounds than in the past.
I think some are but they have been a lot in the past as well. I think it is also hard for some children of top footballers growing up wealthy to remain interested in the lifestyle of academy football.
This lad was born in England apparently but plays for Slovakia. Is he not at the level required for England? Yeah, I noticed him the other week and wondered about how he qualified for Slovakia. Apparently his mum is from there and his Dad is from Nigeria ( I think, from memory ). You would presume the FA made contact but maybe he’s like Olise and just not interested in England.
It might be that he isn't good enough either, he's a winger that's yet to score or assist in 8 appearances at u18 level according to transfermarkt.
Every chance they've reached out, but I'd say he's still probably a fringe option for this age group, the likes of Derry and Mukasa and a few others performed well at RW.
Anyone know about JJ Gabriel at United and his eligibility? Seems like he's starting to get some hype playing for United's u16s, seems to be born in Brazil. I'd guess that he qualifies for England by residency though.
So I've seen on Twitter that his dad is a former footballer, Joe O’Cearuill. O’Cearuill was born in England but played for Ireland a couple of times at international level.
Cheers. I wonder if him being born in Brazil is just a guess based on his name. You'd most likely expect him to start with England if he's as good as the hype suggests.
