You’d be surprised with many Eastern Europeans and Russians especially. They can have a really strong sense of national identity.

He’s from Dagestan. Many from that part of the world are coming here as refugees claiming oppression from the Russian Federation. Impossible to know his family’s politics and affiliations but to describe him as Russian or Eastern European might not be accurate, at least how we’d understand it.

The source is also rubbish and the quote sounds like hope rather than anything like expectation.

Fair comment from John Obi Mikel. But Nigeria could always turn them down.

Jon Obi Mikel will be seething! Nigeria really don't produce a lot of good CBs, seem to rely on Dual Nationals to cover that position.

It would be a strange time for him to finally make the switch given he's going to have his best platform ever this season to get in the England seniors.

Former Newcastle manager Steve Bruce, 63, is in talks to become Jamaica manager. The Englishman has not worked since being sacked by West Brom in October 2022. (Mail), external

Could see that leading to more to switch.

I like Tosin and he should probably already have England caps when you consider worse players than him have been called up, and given plenty of minutes, in recent years. He may still win a few fleeting caps if he doesn't switch to Nigeria but it could become even harder for him to have a proper England career going forward with how strong our group of young CBs currently is. Can see why he'd consider it.

Really? Can't see many players wanting to jump at the chance to play under Steve Bruce.

They pretty much rely on duals for every role bar CF. Obi Mikel should be querying more about what has happened to their set up?

Some of the duals they have picked over the years have hardly been of the required standard.

Rumours intensifying now that it may be Steve McLaren instead. Other names reported to be on the final list of 4-5 candidates are Deon Burton (current West Brom U23 manager, former Wednesday and Derby striker who played in the 98 world cup for Jamaica) and Jose Peseiro (just finished coaching Nigeria). There's also a local coach, Miguel Coley, in the running.

I like all of these names more than Bruce, tbh, although I'd be ok with Bruce (we could do worse). Hopefully we will know by next week.

I think either McLaren or Bruce help with recruiting, at least a little. They've got extensive ties in UK football and are well known by players, and have probably coached a few of our targets. Burton will definitely be an asset, and he knows the region having earned 62 Jamaica caps - just lacks experience as a senior manager. Peseiro has the edge with experience in similar regions/countries (he also coached Venezuela, so at least knows what its like to manage a side in this part of the world - big adaptation for most European managers coming in).

Yep, its locked in, the Jamaica Football Federation has made the official announcement.

They dropped a post on IG and one of the first to like it was...Mason Greenwood.

Take that for whatever its worth...

Don't wanna bring him up too much because he's gone, but Olise might turn out to be a bigger dual national loss than I originally thought. Utterly ridiculous player.

I think it could well go down as the FA making a massive error not trying as hard possibly to entice him back.

Why do people think that international team football is the same as club football?
If Olise doesn't want to play for England, they can promise him anything, he chose France and that's it. We need to get over this.

It very much feels like Olise made his mind up about France a few years ago. I think to stand a chance we would had to have been capping him regularly from U17 onwards. No idea how good he was at that age compared to the players who played in his place so can't say how big of a blunder that was.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember him being talked about even on this forum somewhere around that time. I don’t doubt the FA tried but probably too late in the day plus I personally think he never had his heart on playing for England anyway. On another note it must be quite a tough job with the talent ID department because some might look like they have it when younger even if they lack consistency but its gamble as you don’t know how these players will develop compared with other youngsters that we’re currently looking good if quite not the maverick players like Olise. Im not sure anyone would have predicted Olise’s rise like he has but he’s gone now so we just need to move on sadly.

He’s proper begging it now isn’t he? The Scots won’t be happy he constantly tries to use them as a makeweight.

If he wants to go, he should just go. He’s not getting into this squad any time soon.

Doesn't look like it. They're even claiming we make use of the old 'colony' benefit despite the fact all our players are born in England bar 1 or 2 who lived here their whole lives
