It was a suggestion by the head of the players' union. Neither the football league or the premiership are keen on the idea.

In a nutshell he suggested that the premiership pay the football league £100 million and in return give up one pro/rel place (i.e. making it 2 up, 2 down) in order to help football league clubs pay off their debts.

suggesting that some of the players in the football league, some of whom are on up to £40,000 a week, take pay cuts was obviously not an option. But then he also once argued that a football club (Leicester) should not be allowed to sack a player just because he punched a team-mate in a hotel room so hard he gave him a double fracture of the cheekbone.

Desperate times, desperate measures I guess but you would have thought they could come up with something better than this.

It was one man's idea. The league don't want it. The premiership don't want it. It won't happen.
