A very solid 64 minutes from Lauren Hemp. She looked really sharp and physically still seemed like she had more in the tank. Positive for Lionesses fans!— Emma Sanders (@em_sandy) May 4, 2025
London City Lionesses promoted. First team in the top league for a long while not affiliated to a Men’s team (Their Millwall’s breakaway team.)
Fran Kirby doing her best in front of Wiegman to make sure she is on that plane to Switzerland... when fit, remains one of the very best.— Girls on the Ball (@GirlsontheBall) May 5, 2025 Willamson, Mead, Russo, Baggaley, Kirby, Symonds and Parris those starting with Kelly and Wubben-Moy among on the benches.
That was entertaining viewing, there was about 10k watching the stream live on Sunday. From what I saw London City looked more talented. Not sure if WSL is like the Male equivalent where it is now very difficult to survive in the Premier League after being promoted. Happened to Crystal Palace this season who went straight back down. It'll be interesting as Michele Kang is certainly ambitious. Almost 9 thousand at St Andrew's which is a record for a Birmingham WFC home game. Expect we'll see them promoted at some point given they also have owners who intend to invest in their infrastructure.

I always forget Karen Bardsley has an American Accent. And she never lived in England until 2014 - was in the youth squad from U-19 level.

Quite interesting that new recruits barely need much time at all in the WSL to get noticed for this squad. They seem to look very comfortable at international level too.
Sarina Wiegman is unsure whether Lauren James' fitness can be relied upon for Euro 2025 after the forward was not included in England's squad for their Nations League double-header.
