This is a very good move for Erica Parkinson, especially for a youngster in a rugged and fast-paced women’s league that is almost reminiscent of the old Premier League style of the 1990s. The league is a physical, transition-heavy, and far less tactically sterile than many European setups, which forces young players to mature quickly both mentally and athletically. There is far more emphasis on intensity, directness, pressing, recovery runs, and winning individual duels, so it can be a brutal but valuable environment for player development. If the deal goes through, she will also be playing alongside Lauryn Thompson, another 18-year-old English youngster, which could help ease the transition culturally and stylistically.
