It’s just a really weird excerpt, it alludes to but doesn’t describe alleged bad behaviour by Hampton which apparently leads to Earps being morally compromised if Hampton is in the squad. Earps equivocating so much just makes you think it’s basic sour grapes because she lost her place to a better player.

Yeah, Hannah Hampton had already owned up to her past behaviour and mental struggles prior to the tournament. In contrast, Mary Earps's petulance in quitting on the eve of the Euros just comes across as someone who thought they were irreplaceable and didn't particularly care about England or the team's chances.

Didn’t read all of it but read enough of Earps moral abiding campaign within the squad. It felt like she got too big for her boots! At times it felt like she had as much say in squad selection as the manager. I really didn’t like the part where she felt hurt when Wiegman asked her for a chat at the end of a team meeting. I mean I bet we have all at some point been asked to stay behind for a chat with a manager at some point in time and it could be for a whole variety of reasons. Why she felt embarrassed by something like that is beyond me!

You need to know what Hampton did to figure out if any of this is warranted. I don’t know why Earps can’t understand that without this information her own actions just look petulant.

Some players are just awful squad members after they have lost their starting role. That likely fits Millie Bright and Mary Earps. Nothing wrong with that but people will move on quickly.

Yeah definitely, you can’t have a rant about someone’s behaviour but not have some basic details listed so we can fully understand the situation. She just mostly comes across like the moral law enforcer within the camp.

Sounds like she was appointed into a leadership role and they had a moral code that she was using. Either to maintain her starting role or because she truly believed what happened was wrong. Or maybe she just doesn’t like her.

Whatever happened there was definitely a character clash between the two.

Goalkeeper is a very fluid position, that’s why I always believe that finality is not the right word on who would be the #1 in the foreseeable future.

Is it? I'd have thought it's the one position that's least like to undergo regular change. Brighton had a spell under De Zerbi where they alternated between two keepers on a game to game basis, but to maintain a settled backline, if you find a good number one you generally stick with them.

Indeed, it’s the strangest position in football where keepers like Scott Carson can do next to nothing in terms of playing football for years at a time.

And still earn enough to probably be very comfortable for the rest of his life. One of the cosiest jobs in football.

According to Capology, a new deal in 2022 improved his salary to £30,000-a-week and £1,560,000 per year. Across five seasons with City, two-time Champions League winner Carson made around £7 million for just 108 minutes of action in between the sticks.

He might have only played 117 minutes for City, but Scott Carson won 9 trophies under Pep, including four Premier League titles and the Champions League. Throw in the CL trophy he picked up as a sub at Liverpool, and he's become one of the most decorated British keepers of all time. Utterly bizarre.

I've only seen the headlines but Earps comes across alot worse than Hampton. Earps was great for England but clearly thought she was too big to be dropped and the fact she didn't like Hampton made it worse.

Yes. The goalkeeper position is fluid, so there’s never a true sense of finality in who holds the number one spot in foreseeable future. You don’t predict England’s or anyone’s first XI today for the 2027 WWC due to circumstantial nature of the game.

FFS! Need a break from that team. This format is just going to mean more games against the same teams.

That’s what UEFA want - it brings in more revenue than all the games being against average to weak sides like the men’s still in.

But it could easily have been Germany who we haven’t had in the Nations League yet.

Scotland and Israel again as well - last time the match in Scotland ended up behind closed doors.

That is what they are hoping for but I’m not so sure. Wouldn’t be a big surprise if one of the Spain games was moved to one of the alternative channels if the schedule doesn’t permit it.

The same schedule gets boring. This is what the USWNT have to deal with because of their schedule.

Now Euro teams have the same.
