These awards never make much sense to me but the women’s award always feels like another level of bizarre. I like Russo but how is she third? Spain and Barcelona had everything in their favour with regards overall talent and managed to flop but still win all the awards lol.
We stand with Jess ❤️There is no room for racism, be that in football or any walk of life. Those that hide behind such vile messages need to be held accountable. https://t.co/h6ARroq71R— Lionesses (@Lionesses) September 25, 2025

Going back to this, the ladies have had two keepers winning best in the world awards in the past few years whilst the men have been in search of a legit world class keeper for 23 years now.
TBH, who knows how many more world class GK England have at their disposal. Hannah Hampton is #1 because Erps retired.

Hampton impressed me the most out of the England squad at the Euros. She seems to be a complete goalkeeper, passing, shot-stopping and command of area. At least from what I saw she could go on to be better than Earps.
They are both equally good, but different style. May I add that it’s a little bit strange to me that #1 England’s GK position isn’t as high of a profile as USA’s #1. To us, it’s one of the most revered position for female team sport as much as the best quarterback in the NFL for male athlete.

9 years. 88 caps. Endless memories. ❤️ Millie Bright has announced her retirement from international football.Congratulations on an amazing #Lionesses career, Millie! 🏴— Lionesses (@Lionesses) October 13, 2025 🏴🤝 pic.twitter.com/20fXL9pifJ— Lionesses (@Lionesses) October 13, 2025 I think everyone expected that. Katie Reid must actually be in with decent chance of a call up to replace Leah Willamson. Lucy Bronze played a minute yesterday in her first match of the season so not sure she is involved as well. Lauren James is still absent. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c9qnq32yzx0o
England's first squad since Euro 2025 Goalkeepers: Hannah Hampton (Chelsea), Anna Moorhouse (Orlando Pride), Khiara Keating (Manchester City). Defenders: Lucy Bronze (Chelsea), Lotte Wubben-Moy (Arsenal), Jess Carter (Gotham FC), Niamh Charles (Chelsea), Maya Le Tissier (Manchester United) Esme Morgan (Washington Spirit), Alex Greenwood (Manchester City), Taylor Hinds (Arsenal), Katie Reid (Arsenal). Midfielders: Grace Clinton (Manchester City), Jess Park (Manchester United), Ella Toone (Manchester United), Georgia Stanway (Bayern Munich), Keira Walsh (Chelsea), Laura Blindkilde Brown (Manchester City), Missy Bo Kearns (Aston Villa), Lucia Kendell (Aston Villa). Forwards: Beth Mead (Arsenal), Chloe Kelly (Arsenal), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Michelle Agyemang (Brighton on loan from Arsenal), Alessia Russo (Arsenal). ‘The headlinespublished at 11:04 BST 11:04 BST Lucy Bronze makes the England squad despite only returning from injury on Sunday. Bronze played the Euro 2025 final with a fractured tibia. There's a first call-up for Arsenal duo Katie Reid and Taylor Hinds. Hinds had previously switched allegiances to Jamaica but never played a competitive match for the Caribbean nation so is eligible for England duty. Uncapped Aston Villa midfielder Lucia Kendall is also included in the squad.’
Good to see a couple of new faces in there. The goalkeeper situation continues to be quite strange in that we seem to have two of the best in the women's game (one being retired from England) but beyond that we're struggling to find any who are playing regularly.
It is always mind boggling to me that the men’s team scrapped and restarted their whole set up because we weren’t creating enough players in specific areas. The women’s system seems to create mass amounts of centre backs and box to box midfielders. Then there are quality gaps everywhere else. But they win trophies and the system seems to be deemed a success. This team has zero wingers, not enough full backs and two of the full backs picked Wiegman doesn’t seem to rate that much. The only attacking option you would be mildly confident of being able to complete a take on is Beever-Jones.
Just spoke to Sarina Wiegman for Radio 5 Live. On Maya Le Tissier she said: "Of course we see every single game at Man Utd & it’s incredible how consistent she is, also in availability. I still see her as a right-back for us but I know she can play as a centre-back too."— Emma Sanders (@em_sandy) October 14, 2025 Le Tissier is still mainly a right back in her eyes
