I have Dish Network (satellite) and the only Channel I have is BBC America. They do not offer any other British programmes (believe me I have checked). I too will be one of those travelling 60 miles to an Irish Pub in Denver (Fado). Their cover charge is $20 per person, although I asked the manager if it was okay to bring my 6 yr son and he said he would not charge him. For the under 21 on this forum, you can enter the pub if they serve food.
Setanta replied to me Without posting Setanta's entire e-mail, the bottom line is that a) they believe they are missing out on scads of revenue due to home satellite piracy and bars stealing the feed. Dozens of lawyers & lawsuits are involved but that doesn't solve the problem. b) They definitely want to offer games via home PPV but claim the bar revenue is the only way to cover their rights fees to the FA.
I'm not a big fan of Setanta, considering you can get a lot of matches elsewhere. It will be interesting to see what happens once their contracts to carry some of these matches runs out.
Re: Setanta replied to me These reasons are almost as convincing as Rio's "forgetting" about his drug test.
I too have supported Setanta for many years and paid $20 to watch all the England matches. Heck I was in the UK for the last 2 England matches and my wife still shelled out $40 so she could watch the games. The way Setanta are treating us is plain wrong. My concern now is that the Turkey game is a test and if all goes well, we can kiss goodbye to home ppv for good. Tough choice for me tomorrow. Do I take the short term view and just go to a bar spend about $100 on admission + food for the family and watch the game or I take the long view and boycott in the hope we get it back on Directv. Less than 24 hours and I still haven't decided Anyone else remember the days when we use to see England games for free on Fox Sports World?
Elizabeth, You are joking about BBC and ITV on Directv arn't you? BBC America is not the BBC and there is no ITV anything on Directv. Please explain. If there is any possible way to get the UK stations over here then I would be very interested in hearing about it
How are our friends in Canada watching the match? Canadian satalite is available in the US for only a moderate amount of hassel
1. Anyone know if the Turkey-England will be broadcast on a shortwave station (BBC?) 2. What about ESPN Insider?
No, i'm serious, I got BBC UK via direct tv. It was an special offer that I took right before the 2002 WC, just to see the England matches and other matches from BBC sport.
The game is on ITV. There is no channel called "BBC UK" and I have seen nothing to demonstrate it is available in America. In fact because of the license fee, I do not think it would be possible for them to do this. That's why they have BBC America.
For those in CT, The Playwright in Hamden's got it. $20 cover, confirmed yesterday by phone. (and only a 6 mile drive for me, woohoo!)
Is there a way to watch the game later...like after the game is over at some other time. Will there be any networks playing the game at a later time/day?
Another silly joke from Sonic (Seahawk logo) Fan..? For those who live in the Seattle area the George and Dragon wikk be showing at 10am and 7pm, ticket only http://www.georgeanddragonpub.com/football.html
I don't know what to tell ya. I guess you're going to have to come over my house and to see it yourselves. I don't even know if the match would even be on BBC. As as i speak, the time now in UK is 5.38pm. I'm currently tuning on BBC ONE channel watching "BBC London news" and followed by a British program, "Born to win" and there is no sign of Football.
I have the game on five live now. Gerrard and Becks are doing well but Rooney and Emile can't latch on.
Hesky to scholes in the area out for throw. Goes to center ooooh over the bar from 10 yards. James pulls off great save on the counter
