yep sweden are a typical bogey team .One half chance in the whole match and it goes in.
That defensive reshuffle at half time left alot be desired .Woodgate/terry were doing alright and then he brings on southgate/king ...
I reckon southgate maybe got caught out on the swede goal.

First half performance was pretty good but didnt produce any goals after afew chances were carved out....
Second half was scrappy and england grafted to create chances but were let down by some woeful shooting.

Did eriksson actually learn anything from this game???
why only give woody 45 minutes but play carragher the whole game???
why only give thompson 60 minutes???
why play an almost totally defensive midfield of butt/gerrard/hargreaves/thompson???

    yep another wasted friendly game....
I also thought the officials were abit fussy with the constant whistling for every slight contact..

Sven always has a bizarre approach to these friendlies, he has an attitude that it doesn't matter and it's all experimental, that spreads to the players and they all look half-arsed and disorientated. Not bothered though, as long he keeps getting the results in the competitive games. If those dry up then the FA should push him off to Chelsea and throw all that money on somebody else.

Nice run around for the reserves and nothing more. Thought we did ok in the first half, with us hitting the post twice and Rooney missing a complete sitter and restricting Sweden to pot shots from outside the box, but second half was abysmal. I turned it off before the end, complete waste of everyone's time...

I'm still laughing at the fact he called up SWP and Samuel and didn't bother to give either a run about. What was the point of calling them up exactly?

Even though it was only a friendly, there are fellows on the pitch trying to make the team. This does not bode well for England. Sweden somehow managed to score on us, yet we can't manage a goal with all the Premeirship players that were on the field? This was rubbish.

There is no question in my mind that England will bow out of Europe early. Michael Owen can't even score from the spot. I look at Owen compared to Henry, and Henry is loads better. The only striker England seems to have is Shearer, and he is retired. These are very gloomy times for the 3 lions. I'm afraid, that England will barely muster a purr, let alone a roar.

Good riddance to him! Send SkipperSnack/Wildman back to his sleazy internet trash sites.

Anyway, a 'game' of two halves, first was mostly England, post, bar and last ditch saves. Second half was mostly Sweden, England looked disorganised, tired/distracted and Kim Kallstrom looked a talent for the Swedes breaking forward from midfield. I always used to sign him for Spurs on Championship Manager, so I knew he was quality :D I think Denmark - Sweden will be an interesting game at Euro 2004, not just as a derby but in football terms I think it will be a good contrast. Denmark's pace and wide play, Sweden's midfield running and solid defending.

Jermaine Defoe is sharp and gifted, but a bit selfish as young strikers often are. Woodgate is class, Gardner needs another season or two of full Premiership footie, Thompson is going to be a one-cap wonder... but really, I can't see much being learnt from this by Sven other than midseason friendlies are dull, played at walking pace and when deluged with subs are a waste of time and money.

I hope thomo gets another chance after his celtic form...
You cant just ditch the guy after 60 minutes...
Sven has done that to too many players and ruined them...bowyer ,dunn ,ricketts,etc...

Thompson was completely invisible. I think this was the last game before Sven picked his Euro squad. He has no chance of making the squad now....

Why do you call up 4 keepers and then play your #1 for 90mins?

This isn't a direct reply to your comment but it seems that Sven can't win. He's not supposed to make lots of subs because that makes a mockery of the game, but then he gets slagged for not giving players a chance or only giving them a half. There's even a criticism that some players didn't play? It's simple math. The games only 90 minutes & he can only play 11 at a time.
A national manager's job security should never be mentioned in the same breath with results in friendlies.

What did I say that was so upsetting? Obviously you are all as upset as I am that England are in a world of hurt. The truth can sometimes hurt.

England had guys on the field trying to make an impression on Sven. They came up woefully short. Let's not bicker. Lets solve the problem. I hate to say it, but I seen an early crash out of the Euro. God knows that history is not our side with respect to winning trophies.

Remember this. Whist friendlies may not be important for the manager to win, because he is trying various players, the players on the pitch are working their bums off to win a place. There is no great shame in losing to a quality team like Sweden. All today's loss proved was that players they had on the field today, were better than ours. On a different day, the results may be different.

That being said, we need to do more to make sure that there are better quality players coming up the ranks. I still shake my head in disbelief at the number of foreign players that send English players down to the lower divisions.

Sinner, I don't know anything about a wildman. I think Prenn is a bigger man than being threatened by a few posts that point out our weaknesses.

Who said it was the England reserves? Are you saying the England reserves can't beat the Sweden reserves? Lets face it. We lost to Sweden and we need more talent. Sweden is a good team. Remember I was concerned about all the players losing their jobs to foreign players.
