I think Mheuka is the most likely to end up starting by the end of the cycle of all the rest of striking options, though will very much depend on how he takes to first team football. I don't think Lankshear or Scarlett really have anything over Mubama. Dean was interesting last season but such a serious injury is always difficult to determine what impact it will have on a players development.
My preferred choice would be Scarlett if he could finally find some consisteny at club level even if that means leaving his boyhood club. Carsley seems to be a fan of Ty George as a make-shift 9 and have to say I'm intrigued by it.
We don’t adapt to circumstances at all with our youth teams. Conditions required a more direct approach at least at some points. Ireland were going long into space continuously, long throws and every free kick in our part of the pitch was being booted into our box. Whereas we are taking off our only forward to play false 9’s and often trying to pass things into the net. The only direct thing we did was switch the full backs and I felt that worked. That win is important and in every campaign we have underwhelmed a bit in certain qualifying games. Hopefully we get better conditions in Slovakia.
The plan might have been to let him play for the U20’s and then come away with the U21’s for the second game in Slovakia.
Goalkeeper Finlay Herrick (West Ham United) has joined up with the MU21s squad for their game in Slovakia on Tuesday evening, to replace Elyh Harrison (Shrewsbury Town, loan from Manchester United) who has withdrawn injured.
