Glasner expects Wharton to miss England U21 games https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cz04nllzk07o He can't just keep saying this. Obviously nobody wants Wharton to have long-term damage but you can't just keep playing him every week then saying he's not fit and has to miss the international break. It sets a really bad precedent if England bow to it.
It’s basically threatening the FA. FA should withdraw all Palace players if this continues. Guehi and Henderson can be replaced with Maguire and Henderson with Trafford or Ramsdale.
This is just ridiculous and let’s be honest, none of us are surprised by his stance are we? Think many predicted this would happen despite Glasner continuing to play him in every game! How can he expect the FA to play by his rules. If he’s bloody injured then let him bloody recover fo gods sake.
Missed the game but the consensus seems to be that Cirkin was very impressive again last night. Would be good to somehow get some clarification on whether or not he has the necessary documentation to play for England.
I thought the same thing. FB said there was an issue with him going to the U17 Euros a few years back and someone else mentioned he might not have the documents needed. I'm not 100% on the laws regarding UK naturalisation but I think he is fully naturalised with no English bloodline so I guess it's possible (but still unlikely) that he might not have a passport - but even then he could easily get one if he just took the citizenship test.
Soon he won’t even need to do that as a new simplified procedure for Irish citizens is coming in (It got Royal Assent in May).
Yeah, he was very good and looks a natural left back, very slick going forward and just seems to glide with the ball. I hope it is an issue with his passport otherwise our talent ID Coaching team / U21 team might have dropped another clanger.
It's weird because of how few left-backs we currently have at senior level. Feels like scouting and developing left-backs should be a bit of a priority. Lewis Hall is the only one in this U21 squad and I don't think it takes a genius to see that Callum Doyle is a centre-back, not a prospective left-back at the top level.
Yeah, would love to know the reasons behind it as seems puzzling but you never know with our FA/Coaching set up as they do make some odd decisions at times when it comes to selections.
We're generally pretty good at this but yeah, every country's FA drops clangers in talent ID now and again and you can't help but feel like this might be somewhat of one. Cirkin just looks so good at both ends of the pitch and is so dominant physically, it's hard to see what they wouldn't rate about him.
So Wharton is starting for Palace. The FA would basically be bowing down to clubs demands if they do a medical assessment and rule him out. But it’s most likely the FA will I suspect.
There is no evidence to my knowledge to prove this or even insinuate it. Cirkin wasn’t a definite squad member at U17 level (unlike others with this issue e.g. Musah). He was part of a rotation of options. It is quite likely that others were just preferred to him. Bondswell and Haydon Roberts got most of the caps and played the competitive games.
Wharton starts for Palace but yet their manager wants him to permanently rest for the U21’s! Beggars belief tbh!
Same thing was said about Rodger too. Anytime a player is in decent form club managers think they shouldn’t be included in u21 squads it seems. I think it’s important for their development by playing for the younger int squads. I seen Wharton had put the u21 squad on his insta story. Seems like he’s ok with attending it.
Will Cirkin be cap-tied if he played for our u21 in official competition? He has said in the past that he'd be happy to play for England, Ireland or Latvia so he may be keeping his options open for now.
Not with the new rules soon to be approved - no cap ties for anything but senior matches going forward.
Pretty clear Wharton isn’t fully fit. No idea why Palace are not giving him time out themselves. Obviously they need him but they have to think about the season as a whole.
Yep, thought he wasn’t moving very fluidly at all during that first half. Playing players when not fully fit rarely works out well. Strange to persist playing him when they even admit he’s not fit. Bizarre
All permanent caping based on youth level matches seems set to be removed. Only playing for a senior team will permanently tie a player going forward it seems.
