I would never trust some clubs at all not to try. It’s well known clubs are hoping to one day to grt CAS to overturn the current rules that in theory give FIFA powers to punish clubs for that.

Clubs have wanted players to pull out of international squads/not wanted them to join up in the first place for years. They simply don't have the power to stop it and it would massively put them at odds with the players who are mostly desperate to play for their country. Playing in World Cups is quite literally a player's dream.

Even by your own standards, the obsession that you have with the impending death of international football is pretty weird.

Weird and relentless and doesn’t seem to back down from it unless he knows something we all don’t!?

I think the main problem with this group of under21 players is that its a bit to good. All the best U21s are in the Senior squad. We're still OK for Midfield and defence but with all the best attacking players in the senior squad we did look a bit toothless.

Tyler Morton not leaving Liverpool feels so bizarre to me.
Stansfield has pretty much ended his U21 tenure for at least a season I'd wager now. Bizarre move for me personally he's made there with regards to career aspirations.

I just don't understand from his point of view, why he'd effectively stagnate his club and international career aspirations with a LG1 move. He obviously needed another Champ loan this season, to a top 10 club etc.

I'm surprised that you aren't being overly negative for a change. Fair play. Every day holds surprises and all that.
He's effectively ended his U21 tenure for at least a season with a daft decision like this.

Assuming Carsley's side is everybody's number 1, which is the next most impressive England U21 side (in terms of team performances, not on paper) you've seen? I haven't followed youth football for that long so I don't remember much pre-Boothroyd; I'm just wondering how many genuinely well-coached U21 sides we've actually had.

Peter Taylor's first spell was probably the highlight before Howard Wilkinson decided he wanted to take the glory of the tournament.

His second spell was better than most too - but take the short Southgate spell aside, Platt, Wilkinson, Boothroyd and Pearce were all pretty useless and I can't remember any more managers than that!

Just going off results, Dave Sexton's teams from the early 80s would be the peak - European champions in 82 and 84, semi-finalists in 78, 80, 86 & 88.

Insane to have someone (successfully) managing the U21s for 13 years straight. Boothroyd's dream.

I would say that 2015 tournament under Southgate was not that good too.

I wonder why they had there been no number 11 for either matches?

Likely one of the players who dropped out initially had it, and none of the replacements picked it up.

Alex Scott is so good on the ball. I can’t see it long before carsley calls him up for a senior squad.

Every England youth team I've seen this break is just carbon copying what Premier League clubs are doing; defending with a 4-4-2 and attacking with a rigid 3-2-5 with a flat line of 5 pinning against the opposition defence.

I can't believe youth coaches really don't see the damage they do with this. Carsley is such an anomaly in this country and it's a crying shame

1-0 Rogers from the spot. McAtee won the pen.
