Did we not qualify for the under 20 world cup?

Nah, was top 5 from the U19 Euros 2024 and we didn't even make the 2nd group stage of qualifying. Finished below Montenegro and Austria. The one where we drew every group game.

I wonder if George Brown from Sheffield Wednesday gets into this squad? Seems to be impressing in the Championship.

Wheatley came off injured today for Northampton.

Always showing my bias but Charlie Gray from Man City can’t be far off his first call up. City U21 players player of year last season and looked such a good player. Came off the bench in PL2 at 60 mins for first minutes back from injury on Friday at 3-1 down and completely turned the game around ending 3-3 City completely dominant and Gray almost getting winner. Been developing below the radar for some time but must be getting noticed now

Dunno the reason(s) for withdrawing but it was a solitary home fixture last month and the same at SGP for this window. Makes me wonder if it was partly financially motivated.

Would've been better to qualify obviously but given that tournament is occurring now during the season, not sure what sort of hypothetical squad the clubs would've allowed England to select.

Switzerland (opponent for October) also used '05 born players last month so don't understand why England have decided to ignore options from that year.

Jayden Danns also seems to be out again, hamstring apparently. If it's really bad that'll probably scupper a January loan.:(

We obviously didn’t get close to qualifying but it would have been an absolutely decimated squad, FIFA need to move the competition into the summer, no half decent nation is able to name anything resembling a first choice squad, similar to qualifying. France only have 4 players in this squad that played in u19s tournament last year.

Bit harsh on George Brown. Wheatley probably isn’t guaranteed to be fit either.

Always nice to see options get their first caps at these levels. Charlie Tasker who has played a couple of games for Brighton off the bench in the League Cup.

These two belters from Shea Lacey at the weekend suggest he's more than ready.

Kiano Dyer has only played a total 24 minutes on loan at Volendam in the Eredivisie. They're a relegation contender that has had the third lowest possession, 2nd lowest xG, and 2nd fewest passes attempted of any team in the league. Once again, it doesn't really look like a well-thought-out loan from Chelsea's loans department.

Same as with Ishe Samuels-Smith, who's now missed out on this squad, who was sent to a Swansea side that has a left-back in Josh Tymon who's played 4660/4860 minutes in the Championship since the start of last season.

Loans have always been a sub-optimal pathway for player development imo, but for more reasons than one it seems like they're becoming increasingly unreliable for English players.

Samuel the only blue representing the u21 national champions, my shouts for Gray going unnoticed although I’m told he’s on standby by a blue who claims to know these things, any truth in that?

Shea Lacey top talent even I have to admit

Italy’s squad for this tournament was basically a 2007 born team, and Brazil apparently brought close to a C team. FIFA need to address the timing of this tournament otherwise it’s value will decrease even further (which is more difficult now that every other tournament has a summer clash with the Club World Cup).

So apparently Louis Page is starting for this group and Rodriguez is also there at least for today.

    Edit: finished 1-0 Switzerland

The schedule really isn’t good enough. The Elite League would have been much better.
