Jesse Derry doesn't get talked about compared to the other wingers in the squad but he's really good too.
Finished 4-0, Jack Fletcher scored a late goal after a dreadful attempt to play out from the back by Scotland Chris Rigg scored the 3rd with a neat volley after a cross was cleared
Monga isn’t needed in this age group. Seems like a waste. The timing of the games didn’t suit at U17 level. Maybe they regret the scheduling of those games now. Regardless it seems like a mess.
Mheuka on 11 goals from 7 games the under 19s this season. He's already become our top scorer ever at this level as far as I can see. Add on the 13 in 13 he has so far at Chelsea at various youth levels so far puts him on 24 goals in 20 games so far. Surely destined for a January loan somewhere, hopefully he gets a good club and kicks on.
Mhueka has had 20 caps at this level. He’s the sixth most capped player at this level. I was quite surprised by that. Dane Scarlett has a better goals to game ratio at this level but Mhueka played wider or bench roles in his earlier caps.
League One is a better place for him to learn to be a striker. Most English loans to the Netherlands don't work because you either send them somewhere good enough and they don't play or somewhere they can play and the level is so low it is worthless. Belgian loans rarely work either. League One is a good standard and challenges them in all the right ways and there's more matches available. There is no need to go abroad on loan when we have a 100+ team professional league system which is a higher standard than most leagues in the world all the way down.
Care to illustrate with examples which ones were failures? Those sent to Vitesse Arnhem were quite successful. Those sent to PSV and Feyenoord were very successful. So come up with all those failures, please. I'm sure Troy Parrot is a sucker, being sent to Excelsior in our second tier, picked up by AZ without making an impact and being shit for Ireland, after getting healthy.
Charlie Webster to Herenveen recently didn't go too well. Isaac Buckley-Ricketts went to Twente off the back of being part of the 2017 U19 Euros winning side & barely played before returning in Jan. And while it's still very early, Kiano Dyer & James McConnell are barely playing at their respective clubs. In the 2nd tier George McEachran had a couple failed loans & Joel Ndala + CJ Egan-Riley went on pretty pointless loans to PSV B. Those are the ones that are outright 'failiures' but there are plenty of others you can argue probably didn't really add much value that a domestic loan .
If your expectations are for Uxx players to burst into first teams, while even experienced mature foreign players need time to adjust, then you can call them failures. Madueke didnot think his time in the PSV B team was a waste, it was a necesity to make steps.
A permanent move is completely different. We are talking about loans, that are by nature short term, which is why I don't think they should go to the level.
Minteh and Reiss were loans to Feyenoord, and they came out for the better. Not that I want loans to come, on the contrary. My message would be to them, you come either as a contract player of the club or not. I hate it that young players sign for money clubs that havenot got a decent system to develop them, but loan them to Feyenoord/etc. who spend their development knowledge on talents, we have no value returning to us. My message to kids like that would be..you want a big paycheck and no development chance that in the end will cost you ...rot on that club's bench. You want a future being developed and given chances at young age for playing time in first team football, you sign with us. Your choice...development or rot.
He’s just ridiculously talented. Have we ever had such a talented player coming through at that age from previous years?
Ravel and Wilshere come to mind. they're the main two. mind is blanking, but there was also that Man City youth international that was eligible for another South American country that had some dazzling footwork at England youth level some time in the early to mid 2010s. edit: i remember football twitter also getting hyped on Dan Crowley as well, year back
Are you thinking of Poveda? Tbh I think Sancho looked better than Dowman at 15 in many aspects, he just wasn't anything like as ready physically and athletically.
yes! he had some saucy feet as a youngster (really only saw him with England vs City). good call on Sancho too. he glided past people.
