Full quote: "He's on the squad, yeah. And probably he's going to play from the start. With Josh it's quite clear. We all love Josh. The club loves Josh. I love Josh. And we are trying to find an agreement with the players. We are close. We are almost there. But we'll see." https://t.co/Pu43Xe13Fu— Nizaar Kinsella (@NizaarKinsella) December 11, 2024 ‘asked Enzo Maresca if Josh Acheampong will play versus Astana. He confirms he will START and adds that a contract agreement is being discussed and is getting "close", adding: "we all love Josh". ‘Full quote: "He's on the squad, yeah. They need to fatten the goose further before a PSR sale of an academy product and a big chunk of clear profit!
Bukayo Saka with an easy finish following a brilliant Gabriel Jesus pass 😮💨Some incredible play from Myles Lewis-Skelly on his first Champions League start 👏📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/GJHS03AXiD— Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) December 11, 2024
Lewis-Skelly might even be one of those that could make the U21 Euro finals squad as left back/CM cover. Feels like a Carsley type squad option.
Maybe. Would be a change from the last Euros where he told Lewis and Hall age and experience was why he was leaving them out of the last ones. They were no teens in the squad yet Gray is pretty likely to go and Dibling is also in with a shout as well.
Considering the way he used the full backs in that tournament he might have even regretted not taking Lewis Hall. This is the issue with being overly loyal. Lewis Hall might miss this tournament for the seniors and end up never playing in a youth finals for England. Lewis-Skelly would be an outsider but he is likely to be at least in consideration.
Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong both start for Chelsea. Mhueka, Murray-Campbell, Ampah and Dyer are on the bench.
Acheampong is as close to a nailed on senior international as you'll see at his level of experience. If he keeps fit, he'll be in the seniors within the next two years.

What's going on with Mikey Moore, any return date? Seems like he's been really ill with covid or something.
Ange said he'd be returning around New Year, indicated he was training but building fitness, few rumours floating about but given its a 17 year old probably not worth speculating.
🚨 EXCL: Chelsea emerging talent Josh Acheampong commits to #CFC by signing new + improved 5yo contract. 18yo defender’s previous deal expired June 2026 - fresh terms extend to summer 2029. Ends uncertainty over future of England youth int’l @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/AeA4e2LZtW— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) December 18, 2024 Annoying on the one hand because it'll be yet another case of Chelsea feeling vindicated for their awful treatment of players, but it could be a good outcome for the player. You can see a fairly clear pathway for him to break through now at Chelsea, and it feels like Maresca rates him. It's always preferable for the player to break through at the club they've been at since a young age too, given you remove the obstacle of needing to settle in a new environment etc.
Josh Acheampong has signed a new contract until 2029.Congratulations on your new deal, Josh! 🙌— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) December 18, 2024 Bit of a shame the whole freezing out strategy works.
‘Enzo Maresca on Acheampong’s future: “My personal opinion is that Josh needs to stay close with us rather than going on loan”.’
