Must be quite bad to leave him out of this squad - I was expecting him to be there and then probably withdrawing on Monday,
We need Dibling in this squad. Madness to promote him for friendlies with a coach who isn’t even taking them to the U21 Euro finals. Plenty of time next year to promote options if it is desired. Just makes it look like U19 level isn’t important. Not having Ndala, Moore and Dibling from the last squad is pretty significant.
I’ve confidence in the four wingers selected, all four have been under the radar a little recently until George got his start last night. Samuel Amo-Ameyaw (Southampton) Jesse Derry (Crystal Palace) Tyrique George (Chelsea) Kadan Young (Aston Villa)
Ndala has been put on a pedestal by English fans/media that his club and country performances have never quite matched.
Dibling has gone from the u19 bench to the u21s. We have to accept that our setup will always put what they perceive as player development ahead of winning tournaments.
He was pretty bloody good at the u17 World Cup, although a bit too greedy, but seems to have completely lost his way since. Do the media really talk about him?
I like them but we have lost two options that can impact senior games at the moment. I never like losing numerous options in the same area before qualifiers. Means too many options are trying to find a rhythm together.
Like what I've seen from Derry, but he's basically only ever played U18 PL, so hopefully he can make the step up.
Mfuni not in this squad after the double promotion. Missed competitive U17 games for what U19 friendlies? I’m assuming he is fit.
Yeah fair point. I was in favour of Dibling being in the U21s but with a temporary coach making the decision it's less convincing.
There's a good argument for Dowman being in this squad. His performances in the UYL show that he's comfortably beyond u17 level.
Moukoko played U20s at 15. He also played U16s at 12 which is probably the more insane stat despite it being a smaller age gap.
Sorry, my bad, I meant for us. Can’t recall anyone so young who has had that jump before but could be wrong.
He certainly excelled at the World Under-17 tournament. Think he got distracted by agents though, which seems a danger for youth players now, and possibly an unwise career move so may well not fulfil his potential.
No doubt be seen as bias but do England scouts ever get up north? PLU18 national champions 2023, FA youth cup winners 2024, current leaders of PL2, and not a single u19 representative despite a top squad full of them? Chris Rigg the exception but probably watched him on TV as they definitely would not get up to the NE I will no doubt get battered so just to state no disrespect intended to lads picked, just seems strange arguably best youth side in country don’t have a single player. Man united could put forward similar argument tbf
Not sure how you can look through the youth squads named yesterday and conclude that England scouts ignore northern based players. City alone have Simpson-Pusey, Wright, O’Reilly, Whatmuff, Noble, Mfuni, Braithwaite, Miles, Heskey and McAidoo involved. It’s only really Samuel, Warhurst and Oboavwoduo missing from this squad, good players but hardly stand outs.
Fair point, had only seen this squad at the time. So many good 2006 born players in that City group maybe good is not good enough as you say but I do think you will see a few do well as the years move on. Of course as a City fan I like to see every age group represented and counting at least 6 regular 2006 born starters in team currently top of PL2 + Ndala on loan thought we might be represented. I guess the reality as at U19/20 many of the players have first team exposure. Club bias aside hope the lads seal qualification
