Very few genuine full back options in this squad, presumably Burrowes is in as RB. Not really a fan of the way they've cycled through full backs during this cycle. I guess they'll probably play a back 3 with wing backs.
Players who were called up during the cycle and not involved Goalkeepers Dylan Moody, Maxwell Moses, Owen Asemota, Aidan Stokes Defenders Dean Benamer, Dante Headley, Hayden Ford, Goodwill Kukonki, Jayden Ngwashi, Wesley Okoduwa, Theo Juliene, Lewi Richards Midfielders Chinaza Nwosu, Harrison Miles, Jack McGrath, Anton Palmer, Luke Rawlings, Reggie Walsh, Max Jenner Forwards Bailey Palmer, Igor Tyjon, Andre Dyke, Chizaram Ezenwata
Max Dowman just dancing past several Aston Villa players for his goal today. This level seems too easy for him. #AFC pic.twitter.com/1yygfhTgem— Hale End Watch (@HaleEndYouth) May 11, 2025 First goal here, don't need to know Spanish to understand this Los goles de Max Dowman está mañana contra el Aston Villa U18, el segundo es absurdo, recordemos que juega con chavales 2/3 años más que el.Talento generacional 🪄✨ https://t.co/sevi7Rr2Uf pic.twitter.com/fbXUuFYDol— 𝐄𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨 𝐆𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 🎙️ (@EspacioGunner) May 12, 2025
Nwosu seems an odd one to leave out. Is he fit? He was one of the most impressive in qualifying. Seems to me like we have overloaded on attacking options.
Yes, I don´t understand that decision either unless it´s injury-related. EDIT: same for Miles who´s started the FA Youth Cup final and has played a lot more for City´s u18s lately.
Miles only played in the friendly games. So, was probably going to struggle to make this squad. Saying that it feels like a CM has missed out to fit other options in the squad. They are relying on using the versatility of certain attackers to compensate. How are they going to use all of those attackers though? Close to half the squad is attack minded options.
Yeah I know they can play there, but seems silly to not actually pick a genuine RB, given they've used plenty in friendlies and qualifiers.
Even weirder because we have a RB option as good as Okoduwa. This is 2 or 3 squads in a row he's missed now. He still hasn't played competitively for England despite being capped 14 times at U16-17 level, so I wonder if it's something to do with not wanting to provisionally cap-tie himself yet.
He was born in the USA - does he actually have a British passport. He might still be living on a USA one.
I assume this is rhetorical question because unless that information is in the public domain, no one on here is going to know!
Harry Howell is Jack Hinshelwood’s cousin so there is a decent chance that we will have two sets of relatives in the U21 and U17 squads.
And they should also be on the UEFA website where you can also watch the Youth Games for those who aren´t in the UK at that time (My free vpn works for the England YouTube channel when they stream the u21s but somehow doesn´t when I try to watch the BBC. Do you face the same issues in Sweden? @Marcho Gamgee
Yeah it’s exactly the same for me also sadly so UEFA website is usually the only way I can watch these U17 Championships.
This team is very attack heavy with many extreme talents. trying to play them all will hurt the team. personally id pick the best 2 and try and build the team around them. my 2 would be Max Dowman and Luca Williams-Barnett, if they can play together im not sure many teams would be able to cope
Iddrisa Dauda (West Brom) & Laurence Giani (Stoke) make the Italy squad that we'll face. In the other group Spurs' Leon Myrtaj makes Albania's squad.
Whatever the shape and make up of the defence the attackers and midfield are tasty. Mouthwatering really. Will it be two 10s and one holding player? Or one 10 and two orthodox midfielders? x x x x Emenalo Gorman Dowman McAidoo Gray Heskey x x x x Page Ridgeon Williams-Barnett Howell Gomes Ngumoha Burrowes & Mantato too. A settled defence playing through the tournament might help with the regular protective team changes further forward.

Nice to get a bit of focus on the team and the squad here, feels a gap in the market for England pods like this
This year's UEFA U-17 EURO kicks off next week in Albania—so we've picked out some of the prospects that we're excited to watch, prime among them is prodigious 15-year-old Max Dowman of Arsenal and England. All that – and more – in The Shortlist this week.— SCOUTED (@scoutedftbl) May 16, 2025 All squads listed in this link plus a little run down on the opposition.
I think this will get more attention than prehaps usual because of Max Dowman - he has already had quite a few articles in the Athletic and other media and he hasn’t made his senior debut yet.
I've only observed Myrtaj on a limited number of occasions, and at this point, he doesn't quite seem of the level to make England squads at this stage. Has anyone watched Dauda or Giani? would they be legitimate contenders for inclusion in the current squad?"
I like Dauda a lot, think he's a very good player, but he probably doesn't make the squad. Has only this season been moved from CB to midfield at West Brom and then Italy now use him at RB. Giani is a good player but his repeated selection has puzzled me as personally I think Italy have a good 2-3 better LBs domestically.
As I recall they were these last couple of years but Wales haven't qualified this time... Was wondering if Mfuni would go to the U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year but it actually takes place at same time as U19 UEFA qualifying round and he'll be their best central defender despite still being a year young. Had Dowman been eligible to play in this Premier League season maybe Arteta would've wanted to give him minutes and he wouldn't be attending this UEFA tournament. I've heard Neil Ryan is quite an attacking coach. Nwosu featured for West Ham youth in their most recent fixture so I assume he's not injured. Did Chelsea not release Reggie Walsh for this tournament?
