If Gomes meets up with this squad we can only assume that he's in the process of getting his passport or maybe has just got it. He doesn't appear to have played for anyone else since his last England call up and turned down a senior call to Venezuela.
I would assume this was down to Gomes not having UK passport yet to enable him to play official Uefa matches so he is just being included for friendlies for now. Was probably shifted up to 18's last time to enable the squad to prefer for the U-17 qualifiers. Not sure how moving to France may affect his chances of obtaining GB nationality though?
I'm not sure it matters for friendlies. He would fulfil the residency and schooling requirements but he would have been picked for the Euro qualifiers (if fit) if he had the passport sorted. He's played many times for England already though but they aren't regulated the same way. Hence Fabio Carvalho playing for us a lot.
Could have scuppered his England career there then...and all because of his Portuguese passport in the end. I wish sometimes we'd stop being so British about things and just expedite sports peoples nationality processing like other countries happily do. He had lived in England since age 10 and was here legally afterall (so far as I know).
Yeah would make zero sense when you can concentrate on players who are available over someone that’s not. Despite how incompetent our FA can be, that would just be bizarre if they picked a guy for friendlies that can’t ever compete when it matters.

To be fair we once went to a UEFA U17 Euros with a load of players that weren't eligible! This one would be a major oversight though, there'd be no reason for the Gomes to join up either as he'd be much better served playing for a team he's eligible for. You'd hope the FA wouldn't be so stupid again.

I wonder if the FA believed that they would be granted a passport in time even though they did screw up that Euro’s? In this case, maybe it’s a bit different in that, if what fireburn says is true that he’s not even eligible anymore, it would be a massive head scratcher to pick him full stop.
Only the final game, he was an unexplained absence from the first two games which was probably because all his paperwork wasn't in order yet. Musah also would've been able to play had we made the knockout stages.
Carvalho musa and cirkin were ineligible and Sarmiento was initially a doubt but obtained necessary documents
If you're being optimistic and are expecting the FA to be logical he now has his passport, otherwise why call him back into this group if he can't play in qualifiers?
Nationality law is pretty complicated, so it's a bit pointless trying to guess whether he'll be able to get a passport without knowing all of his personal circumstances. We don't know whether either of his parents have British nationality, and we don't even know for sure that he doesn't already have it. We don't know where his parents are living or what other evidence he could produce that might tie his future to the UK. The Home Secretary also has a wide discretion to grant British nationality to someone who can't get it through the conventional routes, and they've used that discretion before precisely to allow people to represent British teams in sport. If he doesn't already have British nationality then it can't help that he's living abroad, but there are far too many factors for any of us to make black-and-white statements about it.
I see Jim Alec Joseph Thwaites is getting a lot of praise this season. Looks to be the profile of player we lack in midfield with a bit of Scholes and Beckham in his style. Never capped by England. Anyone know more? 1855293254947795240 is not a valid tweet id
