Zero chance the FA would pay out four or five years worth of contracts (when you combine Southgate’s contract and their club contract) for either of them before the World Cup. Plus giving money to Newcastle with their current owners would be a red rag to the press who are always complaining about them and I just not sure the FA would want that level of coverage.
I think if Potter became manager we could have a somewhat nervy first few qualifications matches while then improving against harder teams and when the pressure is on. Brighton in the last couple of seasons have tended to play better in the toughest matches against teams with more world class players while they sometimes struggle against the lower ranked teams.
Please tell me you don’t seriously believe this? If the FA want Howe, they won’t not go for him just because it’s Newcastle. I think this is pure fantasy to be honest.
It just feels like the FA will be weary of it causing controversy. It’s been widely reported anyway that Potter is their chosen successor. I think if either him or Howe have a very good cup run this season that would further increase their chances.
They are two managers who will do far better than Southgate with this fabulously talented group of players . People forget that Southgate got the job by luck .. he was in the right place at the right time - he had practically zero success at club level
I can just imagine that at the next FA board meeting when discussing the next manager, they will all be worried about going after Eddie Howe because the press might be mean to them. come on Fireburn mate, you have some imagination at times.
I hope the FA are watching the football played by this group of misfits and rejects under Graham Potter !
I think for the FA they have been more impressed by how he would be a relatively smooth changeover compared to managers with a more different style of playing or man management.
Sure but in this case, if you think the press are going to try and say that England shouldn’t pick the next best English manager if that’s Howe, then they shouldn’t just because of the Newcastle owners is for the birds imo.
He has had some very critical headlines about how he has reacted to being asked about his club’s owners so I could see there being some criticism based on that. Coady is going on loan to Everton with purchase clause.
You are in a relatively small minority considering how often it is now said taking him on in the final last year helped to cause it to go to penalties.
Phillips came on plus he’s only just joined and Stones hasn’t had much of a pre season for one reason or another so really not much of a surprise.
From what I saw of the game it looked like Foden and Grealish were pushed out as wide as possible to create space in the middle for Haaland and De Bruyne. Neither really shone. Man City are quite terrifying this season.
Of the 46 English players on my long list for the World Cup 33 started this weekend, four came on as subs, six sat on the bench and three were absent. Let’s see how many of the 48 (Once Serie A starts) get on next week. Ward - Prowse was the only one who scored (Excluding Guehi’s own goal).
I still think he's the most talented of our attackers. Not the top performer right now, but he has everything.
I know it’s the first game of the season plus they’ve got to get used to new players etc, however I get a bit frustrated with both of them if I’m honest. Knowing their ability, I just think they seem to play it too safe for one reason or another and let others take the chances to be more creative. Maybe that’s their instructions idk and it’s not like they were poor but just not particularly standing out bar a few moments.
I agree and thought they performed about the same level but on the BBC Foden was voted the third best player for Man City today but Grealish the lowest starter. Rice was voted best player for West Ham. Over the weekend no English player was voted player of the match with only Rice, Ward - Prowse and Dewsbury - Hall being player of their team. Danny Welbeck got the highest rating for English player.
