The Times are hinting that Southgate is reluctant to choose Maddison for disciplinary and attitude issues steaming back to the casino incident. The Times also report in another article that Mings is likely to be called up.
Squad announced tomorrow at 2.00pm Squad announcement week is here! 🏴Here's what's coming up in the next month for our teams:— England (@England) May 23, 2022 I don't think there are many spaces available. Who gets dropped from the last squad. ESR should be dropped. JWP perhaps or Gallagher? I think Guehi and Shaw are out in the defensive positions.
I’d drop Mings but it won’t happen because he’s considered a wise head. Would like to see White, Tomori, TAA, James, JWP, Abraham and Bowen amongst the usuals.
Would like to see Maddison also but I suspect Southgate will have his excuses ready for any questions once he’s left out.
It’s ridiculous if he’s holding a grudge against that when others have done far worse and still remained in the squad! The casino incident was nothing also if memory serves me right.
If Tomori doesn't get picked for this next squad, I'm going to officially stop watching England. The amount of duals that are defecting because of southgates's loyalty to average players is starting to become a farce now. Tomori should be one of the first names on the list.
You’re right that Tomori should be called up and if he isn’t then Southgate is wrong on that but what other duals have we lost due to ‘loyalty to average players.’
I think through other than Foden their bad behaviour wasn’t associated with England duty. Through I think the press have got it slightly wrong as he did recall him the month after the casino then his form dipped and he was dropped and he has since spoken quite harshlyabout him.
on tomori. Hes played 30 out the 38 league games this season. Best defensive record. No one can tell me he's not better than mings stones maguire coady. If we lose him to those player pinchers Nigeria or to Canada Southgate wants booting
I wonder how big the squad will be. Franc e have called up 24 players while Germany have called up 26.
Southgate is a stubborn old goat most of the time but after a tough season and now playing three games in a relatively short space of time, I would be surprised if even he didn’t name a bigger than normal squad.
Four games. I think he might choose 25. I suspect he won’t play Henderson and Trent in the first game so they can have a rest after the cl final.
Yeah sorry, four games even. It has to make sense to name a larger group than normal but then again this is Southgate we are talking about.
Hudson odoi, Lamptey would have been in my squads before their little injuries. Lamptey was one of our best performing rb's.
You said loyalty to average players though. The players ahead of CHO and Lamptey aren’t average. He’s not going to pick CHO over Sterling or Lamptey over TAA just because they’re duals. The dual overlooked argument is only worthwhile with Tomori and I’d be flabbergasted if he isn’t included tomorrow.
I don't think Lamptey has been particularly close to a call up at anytime (certainly not on merit), I think Odoi might (although debatable) have been called up if he hadn't of pulled out of the U21s (so its on him) Tomori should be in this squad in place of Coady, I can see the value of Mings, Coady should be nowhere near. (Dier, White, Dawson even Goldson are all ahead of him in my opinion)
I think we'll name a larger sized squad in anticipation of the large amounts of players pulling out we'll almost certainly have. Unlike during the season its far more of an issue to call players up after the squad has been announced now. Question is just how many pull out. Coady seems to be in the squads predominantly as some kind of cheerleader good behind the scenes role were his ability and form is somewhat irrelevant. I dunno, maybe you can get away with it in larger squads. Certainly wouldn't want him to ever appear in a tournament game though. His form has been poor for a while though, would be interesting to see what happens if he lost his starting place at Wolves.
Let’s be honest, in a tournament squad our four central defenders should be: Maguire, Stones, Tomori and White. Guehi next in line. No need for more than four when Rice could do a job there if needed.
I can’t see him calling up more than 26 except maybe if he wants cover incase Trent and/or Henderson get injured this week. It’s not in his nature to predict who might pull out as what happens if no players does or they all concentrated in one position. Considering everyone else has finished those injured should be pulling out now not waiting a few days.
