That was dire. maguire what the ******** was that. southgate - I understand why you are doing it but it’s just not good enough.
Rashford is so disappointing. So much talent yet he just doesn't push himself. He takes the easy option
Well, we looked the side more likely to win it until Maguire's blunder tbf. I assume he's persevering with Maguire because he wants to support him through 'his problems' as he beeves in the guy but it turns out that's a mistake, Kane looks a yard too slow and always on his heels and Rashford just seems to stand there with his foot on the ball. If that was all that was required, I might as well be playing.
Sending off masks poor team selection by Southgate. Right footed left backs don’t work. Rice and Phillips together doesn’t work. Rashford and Mount are fatigued. Why not start a Grealish and Sancho?
We weren't terrible till the sending off but we still didn't look particularly creative in attack, our best outlets were crossing the ball in which is a far cry from how exciting we looked in an attack for much of the past 2 years prior to this change. Maguire's mistakes were terrible but they were also partly because of the system. He clearly wasn't comfortable all game playing in the opposition half which is something of a requirement for him in this formation and ultimately he made a rash decision because of a mistake he made doing that. We seem to have thrown away the 4-3-3 based on very little so ignoring any errors in the 3-4-3 as teething problems or individual mistakes as is happening right now seems fairly illogical from Southgate. I wasn't a fan of how he wrote off our win in Spain in particular.
He’s not looking anything like fit though ... A Grealish plus DCL double sub after 60 minutes could reap dividends .. Then again I’d be worried that Jack playing when we are a man down and playing poorly won’t allow him to play his normal game ..
I must say I find Coady's passing range rather overrated. Almost all his passes are lofted which are difficult to control and even if you do control them well by the time you get the ball down the opposition has usually sorted its positoning out anyway.
Even I’m surprised Grealish is not even warming up. Seems the perfect time to bring a player of his qualities on. Hold the ball and win some free kicks.
I doubt that there is much that can be done when a man down, just let them have the ball make sure they don't extend the lead and hope we can get a break away goal I guess. Can anybody think of a team that's ever gone a man down, a goal down and come back to win? I can't think of any? I do remember Chelsea beating West Ham once with 10 men but I'm not sure they were a goal down too?
So. Remember when they used to claim the Wembley crowd made it hard for the players to perform? What's the excuse now ?
A fair assessment up to a point . I’d say Coady has been decent and Walker also .. even Mings has been comfortable.
