The only certainty is that Southgate would play him ahead of Jack ...

Maybe if Jack gets a move to Celtic or Rangers ... :)

This might be the most critical comment I have seen from Henry Winter in a while.

Winks would be played as a central defensive midfielder and England has won every game he's played in, including Spain (3-2). He is an answer because he's comfortable on the ball and tidy, which is exactly what we need.

Disagree. These past two games with the formation we used handicapped him, though he could've done more to get more involved.

I do share with many people that we should've been more creative.

Bellingham seems to be viewed as a CM by Dortmund and is often encouraged to drop deep.

Garner, Bate and Doyle have the ability to play from deep.

It’s becoming patently obvious now that Rice should go back to CB.

Play either Grealish or Mount as a No. 8 instead of Rice last night and it’s a different game.

What I find confusing with Southgate is his views that with that squad selected we can’t play 4-3-3 but he thinks last night’s formation can work with no natural balance on the left hand side!

Southgate needs to be careful as he’s done a lot of good things over the last years and helped create a National togetherness with the National team but if he carries on with bizarre negative tactics and Squad selections, the mood of the Nation will turn very fast!

Eric Dier was our defensive midfielder against Spain

I'm saying Winks should be England's defensive midfielder when he plays.

Seems like Southgate is Mr. Small Team Mentality. I am seriously disappointed by him. Not because the score because I couldn't care less about the Nations League, but now I think it's obvious he is a coach permanently paralyzed by fear, which was a good thing at the World Cup, but now with so much talent at his disposal he looks clueless and doesn't understand how to use them.

I guess now we know how the girls entered the hotel! What was going through their heads that they thought this was a good idea. People say lads will be lads and you would have done the same....well that’s rubbish because I can categorically say at their age, no way I would have done the same and I don’t think millions of others would have also, especially when representing your Country.

I’ve kind of changed my stance on this slightly as I actually don’t think they will be in the next squad next month, don’t even think they will get picked for the U21’s, I think they will be out for a while until they can be trusted again. How long should they be left out? I really don’t know.

Southgate said there's no point in prolonging the punishment as they are being punished enough missing out. Not as in as many words but basically they are already hurting. I think he will go easy on them. I can see them returning next month

I wouldn’t have either of them in the next squad. Chance to look at other players and give them time to reflect.

They won't be in the next side, that's almost certain. I wouldn't say Greenwood is a big loss seeing as a winger I'm not sure he's really much if at all better than Grealish, Saka, Hudson-Odoi. One day hopefully as a centre forward he'll be useful but for now he's not particularly a loss.

Foden will be a bigger loss but clearly he needs to grow up a bit - he's lead a very mollycoddled life so far and perhaps that's showing. Hopefully they can turn this around and this will be a much needed kick up the arse.

Only a month until we get to have all this fun again.

Any idea out of the injured players who will be available next time ?

What's everyone else's opinion on Rice? I'm really not sure what he is bringing to the team as he doesn't seem too effective in midfield and I've no idea how good he'd be at CB.

For all his faults (pace and a tendency to commit early) Dier is genuinely versatile which is big plus in tournament play and provides more of a goal threat from set plays (taking and in the air).

To be fair Southgate spoke very encouragingly about Grealish bedding into the set up which bodes well!
