    I forgot about Ekitikes injury..

I think if Olise, Dembele and Mbappe all start, which it looks like they all will, then there won't be any fallout

I think they might have issues if they don’t hit the ground running because of the type of characters they have in the squad.

It really is Sod's law that we've been calling out for a midfielder like this for god knows how long and when they arrive, we just ignore them.

I get we've got Anderson and he's quality etc etc, but if anything happens to him who's going to give us that level of on-ball quality in deep areas? It's Jones or nobody imo.

I'd say it's the manager overvaluing things like duel winning and defensive contributions but that wouldn't explain why he prefers Wharton.

I'm also very down with the idea of Wharton being more of an attacking midfielder than a deep one. Suits his qualities much more.

I do think the midfield selections are destined to be a mess and will ultimately harm us this summer. Tuchel's approach has been too scattergun and he's profiled some of them quite badly.

You have to also pass some blame onto the clubs for our predicament. The academies and England at youth level have created and identified the options but they have been given very little in terms of consistent platform at their clubs.

Maybe you should say Curtis Jones should have forced his way out.

I've not much sympathy for players like Jones. Like Barry said. He should have moved as soon as he wasn't playing regularly or being shoehorned into a foreign position. Inter Milan showed interest in January. He should have taken a loan move

Yeah I do agree. Slot in particular has been poor with Jones.

Equally though Jones has played more than enough football and had more than enough good games to be in the England squad this season imo.

Tuchel has shown with people like Stones that he's willing to overlook more in-form players or players with more game time in favour of players who are out of favour with their clubs but are ultimately better players. No reason for him not to do that with Jones.

    He did. Liverpool blocked it.

I agree with all of that but if he was starting regularly he would be in the squad. Preferential treatment at international goes either way. It is usually somewhat unfair or very fortunate for different players.

The other thing with Curtis Jones is that he’s very misunderstood as a player. It would not surprise me if Tuchel has also misidentified him because of his stop start club career.

Jude scored for Madrid this evening.

I think he might be a year old for the young player award.

Might be wrong but I believe the limit is 23 and he's still 23.

    Show Spoiler

The world was sitting at Levi Colwill's feet. Literally, in a sense. The Club World Cup trophy was on the floor in front of him, and Chelsea's central defender was crouching down, posing for a picture with an England flag draped over his shoulders. Then it happened.

The ACL – three letters that no footballer ever wishes to hear because the anterior cruciate ligament is immediately associated with seasons ending.

It is only because Colwill’s injury occurred so long ago – on the first day of pre-season training at Cobham, three weeks after beating Paris Saint-Germain to become a world champion last summer – that he has returned in time to try to help Chelsea lift another trophy in the FA Cup.

That is good for his club, and, potentially, for his country. We are told Thomas Tuchelis set to attend this final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium and, while he will have his pick of Englishmen to pore over, particular attention should be paid to Colwill.

Tuchel had to submit a 55-man squad to FIFA by midnight on Monday this week. It is only provisional, but it is from this pool that he will select his final 26 players to represent England at the World Cup. The FA have not announced who was chosen, but Daily Mail Sport can reveal Colwill is among those initially included in Tuchel’s long list of 55.

That news alone – confirmation that Tuchel is continuing to consider him – will have acted as a confidence booster for the 23-year-old after a long, occasionally lonely, comeback.

I'd 100 percent take colwill and I'd leave stones behind. As good a player as stones has been for England, We need to look to the future. Colwill can do everything stones can do

Konsa, Rogers and Watkins start for Aston Villa. Barkley, Abraham and Sancho are on the bench.
Gomez, Jones and Ngumhoa start for Liverpool. Woodman, Nyoni, McConnell and Wright are on the bench,
