Hopefully sparks him into life, it’s the sort of assist that should spark some confidence in him going forward hopefully and we start to get the Foden back from a couple of seasons ago. Whether that can replicate at International level remains to be seen….

  4. I don't envy Tuchel this squad selection. It could go so many ways

I think it was you who said in the last international break that managers likely persist with Foden because he's so impressive in training that it makes it tough to accept he's not going to translate it to real games. Then Tuchel pretty much alluded to this after the Japan game.

I do think Foden has blown his chance but you also wouldn't be mega shocked if a few good moments tonight and this weekend turned Tuchel's head enough to select him.

I hope he doesn't fall for it but I think the bar for Foden might be lower than it is for others.

Foden has suddenly decided he is a footballer again.

I think it should be too little too late for this squad - especially given he's never done anything for England even when playing well for City, though I do think there's room for him or Palmer as an underperforming wildcard in their on based on raw ability. I'd personally go for Palmer given he's done it in big games for England and at club, and also (usually) takes a good penalty.

Yeah that was me, it's easy to see why managers keep getting pulled in by him when he's capable of things like that, but a 49 game England career now with memorable performances you could count on one hand with fingers to spare has to start meaning something.

But it won't necessarily - particularly if he can follow up with something in the cup final.

For some reason the Sky Sports commentator keeps calling Wharton "Vorton" as if he's German or something.

It was one of the main commentators but I don't know them by name.

I think theres a fair chance that the current France side might implode. Because there can't all play.

I wouldn't count on it. One of the things Deschamps has been very underrated at, is as as an excellent culture builder for France. Very different personality to Southgate but similarly much of his best work has been in his man management and squad building.

The BBC drama about the Southgate years, Dear England, will launch on the 24th May, The play was very good but some of the best bits were the aspects that were very theatre and I’m intrigued how it will work on screen.

I am looking forward to finding out if Henderson’s unhappiness at not being captain in the play makes the screen version.

Didn't it sort of kick off when they got knocked out of Euro2020/1 by Switzerland.

More an indictment of how poor our wide options have been this season than anything else.

Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Anthony Gordon and have begun negotiations with Newcastle United over signing the England forward, 25. (Bild - in German), external

Manchester United are ready to make a formal move for Nottingham Forest’s midfielder Elliot Anderson, 23. (Give Me Sport)

Manchester United are ready to offer a new deal to 40-year-old third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton. (Caught Offside)

France's starting11 is something along the lines of the below..

    upload_2026-5-14_10-55-41.png

The double pivot will then often rotate between Camavinga/Kante and Rabiot.

Ekitike, Thuram and Doue will likely be Subs, I dont believe this will create problems in the camp. Cherki is the one player who offers them something different. But I think Deschamps is too stubborn to change things, to start Cherki in their attack vs one of the big teams.

    @horrisengleton

I nicked this off another site, it's an advanced passing metric chart for the PL this season. The Y-axis shows value added per pass in terms of advancing the chances of scoring and the X-axis shows when a pass fails the higher the 'fields gained' the less harm in terms of a dangerous turnover.

It shows Curtis Jones as an extreme outlier suggesting world class passing in terms of possession retention, value added per pass and that when he does try high risk passing it's in areas where turnovers are least dangerous.

It does confirm fairly obvious stuff for Mainoo, broadly a conservative passer who loses the ball in areas of average risk, positionally conservative as well.

Anderson looks highly impressive for a dedicated CM when you consider all his other attributes.

Wharton's numbers more consistent with an AM or 10 than a CM!

Ekitike is out of the World Cup fwiw so he won’t be there.

My point about you can't play everyone is the ones that don't play might kick off in the background. Also Ekitike is injuried. So won't be going at all.
