I was thinking sven took Walcott for experience, Brazil took Ronaldo to the 94 world cup at 17/18. I don't think we'll use all 26 players
Though Sven taking walcott was a very poor decision given walcott wasn't remotely ready and the squad situation. 3 strikers, 1 of whom was injured and probably should not have gone anyway (rooney), one who had been injured literally all season and only returned end of April (owen) and crouch. Had we gone through on penalties against portugal it left us with only Peter crouch left as a striker.
Out of the AMs and RWs who is even in any type of impressive form? I think it’s entirely possible that Dowman has some more incredible moments as Arsenal go on this run in and it might become a question of how could we possibly leave him out.
Yeah, I’ve been leaning more on the it’s just a bit too early but if he keeps on having a real impact from now until the end of the season, I don’t actually think it’s impossible although if he did go to the World Cup, he’d have to do his GCSE exams on the road.
Ghana and Panama seem as much weaker in the group. Ghana has Partey who is in his career sunset. Palmer, Bellingham, Rice seem good in the middle? They remind on Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes in their prime - Euro 2004. Tuchel could bring more tactical maturity and discipline and remove potential club antagonism. I remember that Owen and Beckham never had good relationship. Beckham and Simeone clash is something that Owen regrets a lot. Arsenal, Liverpool, ManUtd English players didn’t like each other in the past. Chelsea was not their major rival in the past.
Sure but I think Bellingham suits playing rather than starting the current Rogers form if that’s what you’re getting at.
I was more talking about Gordon v Rashford. But I could see Tuchel preferring Rogers over Bellingham even if current form doesn’t justify Rogers as much as a while back.
Think Tommy has already played Gordon ahead of Rashford on quite a few occasions plus Gordon is in very good form so don’t see him switching to starting Rashford imo, unless he now sees Gordon as a legit backup striker to Kane.
Apart from Kane none of our are attacking players are in in great form. But as a RW option I'd have Saka, Palmer and Madueke in the squad. If he (Dowman) goes on a run in PL and CL that makes it impossible, than sure. Buts that not the current reality.
Yes, he’s already made his CL debut. I think ultimately Dowman plays more centrally like he did against Mansfield so he isn’t exclusively a RW option, he could replace Rogers, Eze or Foden depending on who you have in.
Southgate got rid of all the club rivalry in the squad so it’s not the same dynamic at all anymore. In those days the top English clubs had an English core of 3-5 top players by that’s no longer the case either.
I dunno, seems kind of easier to sacrifice someone like Rogers, Foden or Eze than Saka or Palmer. Like you say, a lot of water to go under a lot of bridges for him to make a serious case for a place anyway………….can’t help thinking that League Cup final with City’s high line is the perfect place for the next step though!
Palmer seems underestimated in media. They all comment Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Yamal… Leading defender is John Stones for sure.
Dean Henderson absent today but only illness rather than injury. The website I normally use has taken away country flags. It’s harder and harder to actually count the country flags of players now
Where was John Stones yesterday. He wasn’t even on Man City’s bench. Is he really going to be fit enough to potentially start every match at the World Cup?
