It's likely made up but that would be a massive gamble from City. He's 23 and has missed 90 games so far through injury, basically 2 seasons worth of football.
I didn't even clock it at the time but Foden was an unused substitute for City at the weekend. There were lots of reports about an imminent new contract for him earlier in the season when he was playing well but it's been silent since. I wonder if City are having second thoughts or are reconsidering the terms they were planning to offer him. His deal ends next summer and I can imagine they'll want to get him on a new contract regardless, but I could very much see City looking to sell him at this stage. He's still got time to turn things around but he's looking at two poor seasons in a row now which feels like more than a blip in form. If this is his new level I don't see how he can sustain a career at City earning a quarter of a million quid a week.
Some forget that James has played very little football at Right Back in recent years When he's fit and 'on it' he's sensational. such a shame about his injuries
He's always had average seasons on the whole numbers wise. The exception was two years ago when he got 27 goals. He's still bagged 10 goals this season which for him would be considered underwhelming but for any other player would be a great season
I’m just waiting for how the media react when Tuchel doesn’t take him to the World Cup, He still seems to be popular with a lot of them.
almost a fifth of goals scored in the PL this season have been from corners. polymarket odds for Maguire being called up this month just went up.
Bayern Munich will turn their attentions to a new contract for 32-year-old England striker Harry Kane after France defender Dayot Upamecano, 27, signed a new deal last month. (Fabrizio Romano) Barcelona are ready to pay Manchester United the fee they want to turn 28-year-old England forward Marcus Rashford's loan move into a permanent one. (Mirror)
It has to be said it wouldn't be easy for City to offload Foden if they wanted to. He'd likely command a transfer fee and salary that's well above his actual value which would eliminate most options. I think realistically he'd have to go elsewhere in the PL. I'd say Chelsea would be the likeliest given their myriad Man City connections but they don't pay top end wages anymore.
Foden and Saka have both been just as quiet as each other this season. Their goals and assists in recent years haven't been that different Although Foden was very poor 2024-25 and carried that into this year. Which mirrors Man City's drop off since 2024. I reckon he should go to another league and have a change of scenery after the World Cup
At the local level he’s the golden boy. United have a long history of bringing youth players into the first team that then became elite. City since the takeover lacked this, a particular sense of ‘authenticity’. Foden represents that to the owners. I’m expecting them to extend his contract.
Disagree there personally. Saka has underperformed in terms of goals and hasn't been at his best overall, but he's had plenty of good games and has still been quite influential. Goals and assists don't show it but his performances have still been decent. Foden has pretty much been a non-factor in the second half of the season. You can't really compare them on goals particularly because they play completely different roles. Saka (especially this season) mostly plays as a touchline winger with a tonne of defensive duties. It's not a role that's conducive to a high goal return. I'm not saying Saka hasn't underperformed in that regard because he has, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets a few goals in this World Cup if Tuchel lets him off the leash a bit.
Yeah I think they'll extend him too because ultimately it makes business sense. I still think his City future is extremely uncertain though. I definitely wouldn't back against him becoming a valuable squad member again but I think several outcomes are firmly on the table.
