The fa really are full of lazy decisions making. This has never changed. Any extension should at least have some kind of tournament performance clause attached. Really if you look back the only way managers get sacked is through off the pitch incidents or failing to qualify for tournaments.
I have a good feeling this summer. Even though we have no chance of winning it, I'm confident under tuchel we'll make the semis
Do we know either way that this new contract doesn't? You'd think a break clause after each tournament would be beneficial for both parties.
For once you'd have to say the FA are fully justified in jumping the gun, as Tuchel is probably still the best man for the job. We've seen enough of him now to recognise he's a good fit for us. Particularly with English managerial candidates remaining thin on the ground and Eddie Howe's stock nose diving. And give me Tuchel anyday over the glut of ill-suited Pep clones.
...and the best thing about this announcement. Fireburn can leave his one-man "Graham Potter For England Manager" bandwagon parked up where he left it, in the lead up to Southgate's departure
If a manager wants to walk away he walks away, whether he has a contract or not. It's stupid to give him one when the World Cup could be a disaster.
True, but the FA can demand compensation if he does, just like they pay it if they sack him. As I said, I can just imagine the outcry in the unlikely event we actually win the thing and he walks because they didn't offer him anything.
I'd rather take a chance on tuchel for the next euros than risk someone like Eddie howe or someone similar
Just saw a City fan do one of those team/depth chart things for next season and have Gvardiol and Dias as their starting CB partnership. Lol, who’s gonna tell him…..
Nobody knows. Mark Bullingham wouldn’t answer that question directly but he said they are performance related elements. If there is one I suspect it would have to be an hideous performance for the FA to consider it. They didn’t change the manager after the mess of 2010 or 2014. Would they have even sacked Hodgson after 2016 if he had a contract to 2018?
Even IF we have a bad upcoming tournament I have no issue with Tuchel taking the next campaign. The upcoming World Cup is going to be one of the most challenging ever with the format, location and current sporting schedule. Bite the bullet if it goes awry and work towards the Euros.
Surely It depends of what type of bad it is. Could play well and lose because of bad luck or conditions or look awful, messy and get reports of dressing room issues. The later is where a change might be called for by a lot of people.
The more recent FA hierarchy have never cared about calls to get rid of coaches though. Capello, Hodgson and Southgate had pretty significant calls against their roles and they were ignored. Keeping Carsley at U21 level is also a huge add on effect. Feels inconceivable that we get anyone as good as him in that role again.
Don’t know if anyone saw it, it’s been mentioned or where to post, but Mikey Moore was on the end of a horrific tackle last night. Why do elite Pl clubs insist on sending talented, technical young players to leagues like Scotland or the lower leagues of the EFL. These leagues are stuck in the 70s/ 80s and still have a culture of romanticising thuggery and destruction, rather than actually getting the ball down and playing football. If player A nutmegs player B in Spain/Portugal, player B’s response is to try and nutmeg them back or do something equally skilful. In places like Scotland, it’s to kick lumps out of them. Time to put a stop to sending youngsters with flair and class to technical wastelands like Scotland.
You could post it in the U19s thread, given Mikey is part of that squad. It was a bad tackle, and the player rightly got sent off. I watch a lot of Scottish football you are being a bit over the top with the thuggery angle. I think loans are quite good for England Youth Internationals from u19-u21 at Rangers and Celtic as the demand and pressure is great learning experience, they won't get pretty much anywhere else.
A lot of Fans and lot of the media backed Southgate. If the Summer sadly goes wrong I think that might not be quite the case for Tuchel. And the way things works now days seems to favour those who can shout the loudest.
A lot of very vocal people didn’t back Southgate. A lot wanted Capello gone after the WC. Why isn’t that relevant? Capello had a disaster and survived. This is your argument regardless. A media and fan backlash will force an issue. The evidence pretty much goes against it.
I find this more boring than being in the lower group. Feel like we play these teams over and over again.
The FA must really like what they've seen so far from him - not just results, but strong buy-In & commitment from Tuchel.
I think Tuchel rates this group of players and the past 12-15 months has convinced him he can do something with them; reach a semi or a final. Otherwise I don't think he'd have extended another two years. Its not like he'd be out of work if he went back in to club football after the WC
Was really hoping we got group 1 or 4 for some different teams. We should be finishing top 2 in our group though
Always feels destined that we have to face Croatia. Feels like we almost play them more than any other Country from over the past 10 years.
