Crazy the amount of talent that's not in this squad: Foden, Bellingham, Palmer, Solanke, Tomori, Maddison, Longstaff, Toney, Wharton, Watkins, Gallagher, Sterling, Walker, Shaw and Rashford. Then there's the likes of Rogers and Hall knocking on the door. And when you consider we've lost this forward line to other countries ---------------------------Greenwood----------------------- Lookman-----------------Musiala--------------------Olise Good times really. I'd say GK is another weak spot. Not seeing anyone in the youth teams looking top class either.
Yeah, the first half performance yesterday reminded me of a lot of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal teams, where they were trying to walk the ball into the net. It was only when England upped the tempo in the second half and started to press with more urgency that we saw some possession with purpose. Madueke may have been wasteful at times for sure when he came on, but at least he was prepared to take a punt.
The very first report in the Daily Star claimed it was both a clash with Steve Holland and issues gelling with some other players in Qatar. Since then it’s always been said it was just an issue with Holland through,
I’m not sure Walker and Foden were in the same category for Southgate. Walker he genuinely loved and it was only at the Kane tournament where it didn’t really work. Foden on the other hand it felt like he always knew it didn’t work but just wasn’t willing to to admit that, Trent in midfield failed but let’s not forgot it was fairly widely praised by all the pundits and media before hand - Alan Shearer being a high profile voice who didn’t think it would work.
I think he will depending on how the next four matches go. I don’t think they will confirm it till afterwards. They probably wont want to rush an early appointment after the October matches only for the November matches to go badly.
Foden v Grealish has the factor they both at the same club so it’s easier to judge their club level vs each other. If Foden is noticeably out performing Grelaish at club level Carsley doing the reverse (Even if it’s justified to give balance) just looks odd to a lot of people.
Curtis Jones is due back this weekend. Will he be in the next squad. Is there room for him - Gallagher out for Bellingham. Will he drop Mainoo back to the U21’s for Jones? I can’t see him dropping Rice just yet. .
Manchester United are monitoring 26-year-old Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze and might make a move for the England forward next summer. (Manchester Evening News), external Liverpool might also move for Eze if Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, 32, does not sign a new deal with the club. (Liverpool Echo) Turkish Super Lig clubs Istanbul Basaksehir, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Eyupspor have given up trying to sign Kieran Trippier after Newcastle made it clear they want to keep the former England defender, 33. (Sky Sports), external Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell have resolved their differences and are now focusing on January transfer targets, including Crystal Palace's England defender Marc Guehi, 24. It speaks to how far the standards have risen that what we've seen in these past two games is only considered OK. If an England team had been able to pass the ball around like that 10 years ago people would have been wanking themselves silly over it and crowning Carsley the chosen one.
Just because Carsley choose someone for the 21s doesn't mean he will for the senior, he's picking from a wider player pool. I doubt even Carsley is considering (putting unnecessary thought) these things right now, just enjoy the football until the next international break, and assess the landscape then.
I missed it the other day but an article in the Daily Mail suggests James Trafford would have been called up by Carsley if he had got a PL move, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...erguson-Arsenal-shock-target-SAMI-MOKBEL.html Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler James Trafford's England recall hampered Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford's hopes of an England recall are set to hampered after he failed to earn a Premier League move. Carsley is a big admirer of Trafford, who was No 1 when Carsley led England Under-21's to European Championship glory last summer. The 21-year-old broke into the senior set-up last season and was named by Southgate in England's provisional Euro 2024 squad having spent the campaign playing Premier League football at Turf Moor. Indeed, there is every chance that Trafford would have been included in the current England squad had he started the season in the top-flight but Burnley's relegation, and the fact he wasn't signed by a Premier League side, is expected to hinder his chances of a recall. Newcastle were interested in Trafford but have started the season with Nick Pope, who has been recalled back into the England set-up.
Goalkeeper is definitely a weak spot. Pickford has been one of my favourite England players of this era but I think we could do with an upgrade, mainly a keeper who's more composed with their feet. We have a lot of good young keepers imo but they're mostly quite far off being able to contend for a spot in the side. Beadle definitely has something but he's way too raw right now, same with Trafford. Tickle is potentially a top keeper but also has a way to go yet given he's still in League One. Carl Rushworth to me is a very interesting candidate. From what I've seen he's probably the best keeper in the Championship and I really thought a PL side would take him on this year, but only a couple of PL sides invested in first choice goalkeepers this summer. If another PL side had signed him I think he'd work his way into the squad this season. Wolves should keep a close eye on him. I will also say from what I've watched (which isn't tonnes) of Dean Henderson he looks pretty good. Need to see more of him but he's always looked pretty assured to me.

Lee Carsley wants to keep ‘freshening it up’ ahead of England’s October camp https://t.co/36kSl4MGNx— Football Mad Podcast 🎙️ (@FootballMadPod) September 11, 2024 Jones, Garner and Trafford are my guesses. And no recall for Shaw or Watkins. Foden, Palmer and Bellingham do get back.
Garner?? Really?? Who will he come on for? Not sure Jones will get in either unless he starts regularly for Liverpool.
I really do think Marc Guehi should try and engineer a move abroad if Liverpool doesn't come in for him. He could adapt well to any of the big 4 leagues and probably won't get much European football at Newcastle
