85 - Harry Kane has been directly involved in 85 goals in 100 appearances for England (68 goals, 17 assists). Meanwhile, tonight saw him score his 26th and 27th goals in 35 appearances at Wembley for his country; already the most of any England player at the venue. I'm genuinely very interested to see what Carsley does with Foden when he's back fit again. How he uses him, how long he persists with him if he doesn't perform.
Logically Foden should suit this system. It’s closer to what he is used to at Man City and also what Copper used at u-17 level.

Finland actually did very well to keep the xG that low. Thought they were very resolute defensively. England (1.93) 2-0 (0.09) Finland— The xG Philosophy (@xGPhilosophy) September 10, 2024

Lee Carsley name checks Harvey Elliott as someone who in a similar vain to Madueke - who has been capped by Carsley now at senior level - impressed him at U21 level. Swiftly followed by ‘hopefully we can see a few more of these faces’.— Lewis Bower (@LewisBower2021) September 10, 2024 Problem with calling up him is he is not starting for Liverpool. We don’t need to go to back to having sevreal players who really need to focus on their club game getting senior call ups.

I’d be surprised if one day when he retires from football, you would think he would regret his decision. I mean passing on the opportunity to play for your Country is something most of us can’t comprehend.
Gomes is the big plus. Watching the game and I remarked he’s better on the ball and he’s better in close quarters than rice. With downsides, but I don’t think those downsides matter much.
It be interesting to see if Rice drops out for Bellingham or if Grealish does. Assuming Bellingham is seen as a starter for Carsley. Throigh there is a fair bit of difference between Rice and Bellingham as players
I mean I expect an improvement in his performances, the question is whether or not he can outperform the players he's competing for a place in the lineup with. Couldn't be less bothered about White. Good player but not a unique talent. If Reece James ever gets his injuries under control then White wouldn't even get in the squad if he wanted to be there.
There must be a fair chance Foden can he seems well suited to ‘Carsball’ But equally there is fair chance he gets left out of the squad entirely. That would be unprecedented if his level at Man City remains close to last season.
I’ve never really understood the White situation and his adamance on never being in an England team again. Was his beef with Southgate or with other players? Or was something else at play?
yeah graelish can play left wing in a diff role, the problem is Saka and graelish won’t work in combo with Kane as they both cut in
I would've preferred Foden over Grealish in the game last night. With Gomes, Lewis and Grealish in there we tended to fall into keep ball for the sake of it. Foden at least offers more penetration and risk.
I can see that when looking at the other squad options last night but when Palmer and Bellingham are there it looks harder to fit him in imo.
True, Palmer would've been better than Foden last night. I think with Carsley were going to see perhaps a lot more rotation and experimentation, especially compared to Southgate. I think one of Southgate's biggest failings was that he was so conservative in his selections. He had his comfort blankets like Kyle Walker and Foden latterly which really hindered any experimentation. The best he could come up with was Trent in midfield which was some real low IQ stuff.
I really hope Carsley gets the permanent job. The fact that he’s brought Gomes straight into the squad has impressed me.
