Its being reported in the Spanish Press, so I don't see why not. They've shown interest in the English market very recently, they put in a substantial bid to sign Brennan Johnson last year, Nottingham Forest outlined this in there case to the PL commission.

I suppose Gallagher is the sort of player simeone goes for. Someone who has a good engine and is athletic

The Telegraph says Kieran Trippier is increasingly expected to leave Newcastle this summer with interest from Saudi Arabia.

    I don’t think rice is a 6

he’s been at his best as an 8

I advocated for him to start there with Wharton as a 6 and Bellingham as the other 8 in a 433

he was excellent for Arsenal last year, really good set piece delivery and running from midfield carrying the ball as well as counter pressing etc

he is not comfortable as a deep lying player, there have been very few who have

Mainoo is not a 6 either, he’s better more advanced working from midfield to attack

Wharton or Gomes potentially can play that role

I remember him randomly barging into Slovenian (or it might have been Slovakian) player for no reason. Cuntish behaviour is cuntish behaviour. Its not confidence, it is an abhorrent personality.

You don't get a free pass just because you play for England.

Issue with Rice in that role is I think it's hard for him to coexist with Jude. You need a small spaces player as the other 8 in that setup or it can look a bit clunky imo.

If Bellingham was injured or suspended I think you could run Wharton, Mainoo/Maddison & Rice and it would look good but I think you need a player who can play in tight spaces and sustain pressure in the final 3rd with the ball at his feet. Arsenal have Odegaard, we have options too but that's not Jude's bread and butter.

I think it was the Serbia game you’re referring to when he barged into the left winger and yeah at the time I thought that was stupid but who knows if there was some needle previously with the player that rattled Bellingham but still it was ill advised and someone should have a word with him. However, I don’t think the media are targeting that incident as a reason for going for him and trying to bring him down a peg or two. If there is some genuine issue with his attitude then it would be better it kept in house and his family and advisors deal with it rather than a hunt from the media to try and demonise the guy in public. That’s just my take but I understand that these headlines make more clicks rather than trying to help the situation.

We need players with an edge

all the best players are usually a bit Cnutish and Jude has massive potential

I don’t care personally, look how petulant people like Ronaldo can be

Interesting comparison between Mainoo and Wharton last season.

Makes it all the more baffling why Wharton didn't see any playing time at the Euros. Especially after his 30-minute England debut before the tournament, where he completed 37 of his 37 passes (most of them forward).

Southgate would probably say he isn’t ready if he should have been asked the question but then you could point out a certain 16 year old ( at the time ) who was starting regularly for Spain. Maybe there are caveats to this though with Wharton playing in a more high risk position than right wing where there is less responsibility on defending. Having said that though with our apparent flaws during the tournament, I would have tried him for sure.

Bang on. We've been waiting for a player like this for donkeys years, I just wish fans would embrace him rather than tear him down and try to sanitize him.

More ready than mainoo. Wharton played a full season in the championship. Which is far more physical than the epl

Not really convinced by this, they've selected a few stats where Wharton beats Mainoo for clicks. Things like number of passes, pass completion, pass completion under pressure really need to be in there.

Paris St-Germain want 24-year-old Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, and the England forward appears open to the idea of joining the French champions. (Foot Mercato - in French, external)

Everton are preparing to offer England defender Jarrad Branthwaite, 22, an improved deal in a bid to convince him to reject Manchester United. (Fabrizio Romano)

Arsenal are prepared to offer English forward Eddie Nketiah, 25, as part of a swap deal with Crystal Palace for 24-year-old England defender Marc Guehi. (Metro), external

Mainoo performed well, when Southgate eventually gave him his start, and thus kept his place. There were opportunities to bring on Wharton, but Southgate obviously didn't have full faith.

A lot of these metrics are very close btw, (and they are so young and inexperienced its probably to early to make significant comparisons) also this graph is a poor way of presenting the data, the below chart (FBREF chrome add-on) is much better and against players compared to positional peers in the PL

Wharton is not the same player as Mainoo

Mainoo is better dribbler and getting forward. Wharton is better deeper and is a better player defensively and has the ability to play forward

Still need to see a lot more of Wharton to see if he can actually solve our very specific shortcomings in midfield.

Seen plenty of him. He's an excellent passer of the ball. Very good in tight situations

Maybe so but I'm pretty sceptical of messiah narratives. A couple of years ago people were claiming that Grealish was that transformational player! I think it's pretty unlikely that Wharton would've made a significant difference to our fortunes at these Euros.
