Can't say that wasn't a good performance on the whole. Sloppy second half but they were 2-0 up and still defended Ireland's pressure well. The big concern for me is Kane. He can't keep playing like this. He's offering basically nothing, just jogging around up top. He does nothing to relieve the team of pressure and isn't an outlet in any sense of the word. During the Euros I thought it was injury but I'm starting to think it's more an issue of physical decline.
There was enough there from Gomes to show he has a lot to offer. He's always looking at how he can make himself available to receive the ball.
Solid if not great. Trent should have come off in the second half, He's been taken off at Liverpool in the second half last couple of games, Maybe his fitness isn't the best at the moment.
Very good first half, disjointed second half. Overall decent start to the new season against a team we usually struggle against. There's obvious signs for improvement, but as said before the game people need to be realistic about the scale of change that is going to happen in one international break. The intent in the England attacking and flexibility in the first half was a good blueprint to work from, though we will need to be more solid defensively - pretty sloppy at times giving up shots in decent areas. As Horris says really the only major concern I have is Kane who seems to be carrying on from where he left off. Carsley's under 21 system really demands flexibiltiy and fluidity from the players and Kane looks so lumbering he just couldn't manage it - even Bowen looked 10x the threat Kane was when he came on, merely through making runs.
Don’t you think you’re overreacting just a tad? It’s his first game with this team, it’s going to take a little while for him to get them playing how he wants just like with the U21’s. Certainly lots of positive signs despite the opposition.

An interesting interview with Rice and Grealish. Full of praise for Carsley but also a moment when Rice defends Southgate’s time as well.
Not interesting in the slightest exactly the type of interview you'd expect, paid respect to there former boss and praised the new one.
