I think it makes more sense to go full strength against Wales and make a change or two for Latvia personally. Wales are a lot better than Latvia, makes sense to treat it as the more important game to me, even if it is a friendly. They won't play it like a friendly so it'll be a decent enough test for the players who are likely to actually start at the World Cup.
Kane major doubt for tomorrow according to Sky Sports, Quansah also not training. Shea Lacey, Lakyle Samuel and Harrison Murray-Campbell.drafted into the training to make up the numbers. 22 players are out at training this morning with @HKane and Jarell Quansah following their own routine indoors.Thomas Tuchel and @MarcGuehi13 will preview tomorrow's game against Wales in tonight's media conference at 7.30pm. pic.twitter.com/2v1Xj842pG— England (@England) October 8, 2025 Guehi doing the press conference with Tuchel which normally means he is starting.
I doubt they have any more info on that (they literally published there article after this tweet), other than he trained indoors which is public information.
I wouldn't mind seeing an England side without Kane. I do think he could've been rested for this break anyway but he'll never turn down a call up.
Why it's cool to be old again in Thomas Tuchel's England - recent history suggests you need a few thirty-somethings to win a World Cuphttps://t.co/xwZiakYPqk— Matt Law (@Matt_Law_DT) October 8, 2025 If he really believes that I can see him ending up with Burn at left back,
Kane and Quansah ruled out of tommrow confirms Tuchel. Either Rice, Henderson or Stonea will be captain he says. Are Rice and Henderson going to start together?
I don't know if I'm being harsh on Watkins but I'd have liked to have another look at another name in this window. I know there aren't any particularly standout candidates on paper, but Watkins has very rarely looked that good for England imo, despite the big goal he scored last summer, which I don't think is something he'd ever produce again. If something were to happen to Kane, the one standout quality you'd want to look for in a backup striker is back-to-goal ability and link-up play imo. We simply don't have another majorly prolific goalscorer so there's no point in trying to substitute Kane's goalscoring ability, so we should be looking at players who will enhance the attacking potential of Palmer, Saka, Bellingham etc. It's why I always used to bang the Solanke drum so hard, but Tammy Abraham really fits that profile too - arguably even more so.
I have a feeling Rashford might start instead of Watkins. Also Tuchel again suggests Stones and Guehi might be his preferred starting line up.
Every team that's won an international tournament in the last few years has contained players playing in leagues outside of the top five in Europe. Some even playing in leagues well short of that standard. There's talent all over the world, if you restrict your player pool in situations where certain players are scarce then you're shooting yourself in the foot. We also know Abraham can perform at the elite level because he's done it throughout his career. He did it last season when he played but injuries have disrupted him in the last two seasons. Consistent goals are his big issue but his all-round game is really elite for a 9.
Welbeck is probably the best option out of left field. He was always very good at international level. A bit surprised he’s not been mooted.
Thomas Tuchel takes inspiration from Bill Belichick. 'We're not collecting the most talented players. We're building a team.'https://t.co/FTiFwjzaCO— Jack Pitt-Brooke (@JackPittBrooke) October 8, 2025 I don’t see Foden or Grealish getting back in November going by these comments.
Times says Rashford likely to play at 9 but that he has ruled Stones in midfield. Telegraph say Quansah has left the camp with his Patellar Tendon injury. Hope someone is on standby therefore incase Spence goes down. Tuchel seems a bit over any N.9 who is not Kane and is more interested in the likes of Rashford and Bowen there (He also named Foden, Rogers, Bellingham and then briefly mentioned Delap). Sun predicted line up’s England: Pickford, Spence, Konsa, Guehi, Lewis-Skelly, Anderson, Rice, Saka, Rogers, Gordon, Rashford. Wales: Darlow, Williams, Mepham, Rodon, Davies, Ampadu, James, Brooks, Wilson, Johnson, Harris.

France also won the World Cup with Giroud playing every game while not scoring a single goal. It's been a shame Solanke hasn't had more chances imo. He's not been amazing in front of goal for Spurs but he doesn't half help bring the best out of the players around him.
He must have rated him to pick him but saying that Tuchel seemed to need six months to figure out what his players qualities actually are.
