It’s a sham Foden is not there. Those three are all very close (Gibbs - White is Foden’s kids godfather)
Rico Lewis backs Lee Carsley to get England playing like Man City as he tells fans to expect the Three Lions to dominate games under their new interim manager https://t.co/3MOpUvuHiM— Mail Sport (@MailSport) September 4, 2024 Considering the discussions on here I’m not sure how popular that style will be.
I guess it depends on how it’s implemented, I mean dominating games and creating chances, I doubt anyone would be disappointed but dominating games and playing sideways football without creating much might lead to discontent.
When Rico Lewis says that I think he means just playing good football. Carsley is a fair bit different to Pep, at least he was when managing the U21s.
I mean we've sent the style Carsley aspires too for the under 21s so that's not an issue. The issue will be it's one thing managing to get the under 21s doing it, another for the seniors. Though I would say that southgates football at the under 21s translated pretty much exactly to the senior side, for better and for worse. Regardless I'm not sure I've seen serious posts on here that guardiola's style would not be popular, rather some skepticism that something so famously detailed, intricate and controlled simply isn't repeatable at international level, especially in a team like england drawn from so many different clubs.
I mean the debate about if the PL has become too boring because his style is becoming dominant across the league and particularly in youth football rather than how it would work for the seniors or if it’s boring in the short term.
Kyle Walker vows to win back England place after being snubbed by Lee Carsley in favour of Man City team-mate https://t.co/ONXGdX4xOX pic.twitter.com/IWINHMIXjG— The Sun Football ⚽ (@TheSunFootball) September 5, 2024 I feel he will be disappointed. Istanbul Basaksehir are one of four Turkish clubs who have made Newcastle a loan offer with an option to buy for 33-year-old ex-England defender Kieran Trippier. (Sky Sports) Newcastle ended their pursuit of Crystal Palace's 24-year-old England defender Marc Guehi to show the club would not be taken advantage of during transfer windows. If somebody actually got England playing like a Guardiola team then not a soul would be complaining because his sides are relentless and unstoppable. What bores people is the teams that pass the ball around with no urgency for 90 minutes, and there's absolutely nothing in Carsley's record to suggest that he'd ever be aiming for that.
We need to play direct attacking English style football. When England or English teams play like that no one can live with us
Carsley’s start with the U21’s was nothing like the tournament type display. The early games were quite compact displays with the likes of Gallagher and Skipp starting together.
Given that Carsley will only have a couple of training sessions with this squad, it'll be fascinating to see if he has an immediate, noticeable effect on the way we play. If he does then we'll no doubt get the naysayers telling us it was only Ireland and Greece, but England have put in some dire performances against a whole host of smaller teams over the last two years (Malta, Australia, Iceland etc). It might be wishful thinking, but I'll just be happy to see signs of him getting our midfield functioning again, so we can play on the front foot and start to create a heck of a lot more than we did under Southgate.
There will be a lot of naysayers who only want Pep or Klopp as manager and will never be happy with Carsley.

🆕Chelsea will not call up Wesley Fofana, Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia to their Conference League squad for the league phase. Of course, there are UEFA limits but the decision was made on load management as Chelsea will compete in five competitions potentially until July 2025.— Nizaar Kinsella (@NizaarKinsella) September 5, 2024 Chukwuemeka is included. Chilwell and Vale are not with Chelsea still hoping to sell them to Turkish clubs. I wonder how many games Palmer will play for England this season? How many times will he withdraw. The club World Cup is going to be a mess for our June matches. Let’s hope they not tough ones.
