Because you're misunderstanding how it works. Like if you've selling a car and list it for £5000 (but secretly you are willing to sell it for any offer of £3800 or more) if someone offers £4500 you're not going to say "have it for £3800 mate". The release clause was supposedly confidential so buying parties shouldn't have known the minimum acceptable price - that confidentiality is supposed to help the seller get a better price for their asset. If you tell your mate down the pub you're willing to to sell your car for only £3800 then the next day their cousin comes down and offers you exactly £3800 you might be slightly suspicious that your confidentiality was breeched.
No off course I won’t when selling a car, I will take the best offer. So a release clause just means that if anyone bids over that said amount then the Club have to sell? I think I’ve been confused as in the past as many other players have had their release clause known and Clubs trigger that amount. I suppose Spurs should just have bid a bit over the amount, enough not to cause suspicion and Forrest would have accepted it.
Aston Villa are set to rival AC Milan and Newcastle for England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, 28, who is a free agent after leaving Everton. ‘EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Ramsdale is in talks to sign for Newcastle. The England international played under Eddie Howe at Bournemouth and #NUFC were interested in signing him last summer. #NUFC missed out on James Trafford, who is moving to Man City instead, and have turned to Ramsdale. (Keith Downie - Sky Sports) Newcastle in talks with Southampton to sign Aaron Ramsdale. #NUFC offer for 27yo goalkeeper loan + buy option. #SaintsFC to consider sale, loan with significant fee & purchase price or stay. No outcome but advancing @TheAthleticFC after @SkySports_Keith (David Ornstein)
Ramsdale has a nearly unrivaled ability to land on his feet for someone who's performances rarely rise above average and has no exceptional parts to his game to set him apart from the myriad other keepers around. Baffles me to see him consistently move for high prices, and apparently now back to a Champions League club. On the opposite side of things, I am amazed Cooper at Sheffield United hasn't been bought by a premier league team yet. He's not only a excellent shot stopper, but also has unusually good command of his box.
Don't really know what Newcastle are playing at there. It's like they have no backup plans whatsoever in this transfer market and are panicking now their first choice targets have eluded them. I don't know how a Champions League club lands at Ramsdale even in a panicked situation tbh.
2019-20 ... relegated from the PL with Bournemouth. 2020 -21... relegated from the PL with Sheffield United. 2024-25 ... relegated from the PL with a Southampton side that only gained 12 points. 2025--26... snapped up by Newcastle to play Champions League football? Yep, this is one 'cat" who really does have nine lives.
Everton are interested in signing England midfielder Jack Grealish, 29, on loan but face competition from West Ham and Napoli. (ipaper - subscription required), external If Forest beat Napoli to Ndoye's signature, the Italian club could step up their interest in Manchester City’s Grealish or Manchester United's 21-year-old Argentina forward Alejandro Garnacho. I see it the opposite way, to be honest. He was the Bournemouth fans' player of the season the year they went down, but he was only able to get a move to a strong favourite for relegation. Then he was Sheffield United's player of the season, so he got a move to Arsenal. Two years ago, he was selected in the PFA Team of the Year, only to be replaced by Raya the same summer without explicitly being told he was being replaced. He then wasted a year and was somehow only able to get a move to another surefire relegation candidate, and now people are holding the wholly expected upshot of Southampton's season against him. He may not be in the very top echelon of keepers, but none of that amounts to being "lucky".
He's the definitive number two keeper (a decent shot stopper with a mistake in him). He doesn't dominate his area. And Arsenal got rid because he didn't have the distribution skills demanded by a top tier team. All that considered, l'd say Aaron Ramsdale is extremely lucky to now be on the verge of joining a fifth PL side... and getting ready once again to play CL football.
I could understand a mid-table PL team giving him a go because there probably is still a good keeper in there if you can get him in the right headspace, but I don't think we've seen anything of him to suggest he's a Champions League level keeper. He was letting soft goals go past him even during his best periods at Arsenal. I'd be more than happy to eat my words on this but I think the best this will turn out for Newcastle is a sideways move from Nick Pope.
Trafford to Man City officially announced. He has been given the N.1 shirt because that has been vacant for a while. I wonder what will come first. His England first cap or his Man City PL or CL first start.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cy5pyvp4v3wo Mason Mount has revealed Thomas Tuchel phoned him, I really can’t see him making it back but who knows maybe he will.
You would think he has to hit top form with consistency but even then I think it’s a tall ask with better options available even with Mounts best form. Then again with Tuchel and some dubious calls so far with squad selections who knows.
More importantly for Trafford, City have just told Stefan Ortega that he can leave the club this summer. So there's a definite pathway now towards him claiming that number one jersey... particularly if Ederson's rapid decline in form continues.
I know there is a view that Ederson is declining but in terms of how many goals a goalkeeper prevents per 90 minutes compared to the expected goals from shots on target, he was still top in the whole league last year. With Alisson 2nd and Pickford 3rd.
Newcastle United reach agreement with Southampton to sign Aaron Ramsdale. Deal for 27yo England goalkeeper season-long loan + sizeable fee & option to buy. Permission from #SaintsFC to travel for medical + finalise transfer to #NUFC (David Ornstein)
England goalkeeper Nick Pope, 33, might be a target for Manchester United if Newcastle United complete a deal for 27-year-old Southampton and England stopper Aaron Ramsdale. (Talksport), external Newcastle have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign Ramsdale on loan with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. (Sun), external Manchester United have spoken to both Chelsea and Aston Villa about Alejandro Garnacho, as well as the possibility of players such as Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins going the other way. (The Independent) Manchester United are stepping up their bid to sign a striker before the start of the new season - with Ollie Watkins now their first-choice target. (Daily Mirror) Manchester City have informed German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, 32, that he can leave the club following the arrival of James Trafford from Burnley. (Fabrizio Romano) Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, 29, wants to reunite with boyhood club Leeds United. (Football Insider), external
Grealish should lower his wage demands and choose Napoli. He could thrive there, and could be a cult hero, otherwise he can go back to Villa, which would be a bit sad.

Mail Sport understands that although Gibbs-White is well-regarded by Thomas Tuchel and his staff, he has ground to make up to be sure of a place in the squad for the World Cup next year. Said the same thing last time this story posted on here, he ain't coming to Spurs unless they sell Romero and that looks increasingly unlikely. Reckon he'll go to Liverpool.
