It could be the making of him. Or could be one of those "I'm on my way out" deals that SAF did for Zaha and Powell (remember him?).
He will either be there be their N.1 and rapidly displace Pickford as N.1 or he will be on the bench for Man City and we will be back in Ramsdale territory of a non playing goalkeeper making England squads. But with Tuchel’s boldness he could make a non playing goalkeeper his N.1 I suppose as a reward for his ambition of going back to Man City.
Manchester City to sign James Trafford from Burnley. Sold at £14m & purchasing for £27m so buy-back cost ~£13m. Activated matching rights on #NUFC offer & 22yo picked #MCFC - 5+1yr contract. Ederson staying, Ortega to go but nothing close (David Ornstein) So for the next year we going to have a goalkeeper who only plays domestic cups getting call up’s.
The buy back clause being "only" 27m makes this make sense. They can take him for a year, see how he is, and if they don't fancy him for their long term future, they'll still likely be able to sell him on for a profit. It was the kind of move I worried they'd do with Delap
Why bother with the pointless projections? Just wait to see what plays out, of course it could go any number of ways, like all situations.
Newcastle had chance to close James Trafford deal pre Club World Cup. Man City not considering 22yo goalkeeper at that point but #NUFC offer too low. By time bid raised too late as #MCFC arrived + convinced #BurnleyFC & England U21 int’l (David Ornstein)
I think that's a horrible move for him, to be honest. Foden aside, it's been very difficult for English youngsters to break through at City, and Ederson isn't really showing any signs of decline.
My brother is an ST holder at City and says that Ederson has been poor for two seasons now. Rumours that he's going to Turkey.
I've seen rumblings on that for a while, and also about Saudi clubs. If City do cash in then it's Trafford or Ortega, and if you've got international ambitions you should be playing ahead of Ortega.
You haven't been watching closely enough if you think Ederson isn't on the decline, especially last season. All the City fans have been speaking about it, and I believe his contract runs out next summer, same with Ortega.
Yeah think Ortega will be sold and if last season is anything to go by then Ederson and Trafford will probably be rotated between them.
Be nice to have an English keeper playing in the champions league. Pickford could have stepped up if he had any ambition
They would have if showed any inkling of a move away. I'm pretty sure he's far better than any keeper Chelsea have
Everton paid 30m for Pickford and he's probably been their most important player over the last 3 or 4 years, it'd be difficult to imagine who exactly would come in for Pickford at the kind of price that would have been needed. In history there's only been 3 keepers signed for over 35m. He's also become increasingly limited with his feet which automatically rules him out of a lot of top clubs nowadays anyway. Emi Martinez at Villa has been in a similar situation, granted they did play in the CL last year.
England striker Callum Wilson, 33, has agreed personal terms with West Hamafter leaving Newcastle at the end of his contract last month. (Talksport, external) Manchester City have made a fresh approach for Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento and are willing to pay more than £50m for the 22-year-old England international. (TBR Football, external) England left-back Luke Shaw will also listen to offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia as the 30-year-old is ready to quit Manchester United after 11 seasons at Old Trafford. (Sun, external) Arsenal are aiming to swiftly move to secure Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze once the deal for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres is complete. (The Independent) James Trafford hopes his move to Man City will make him England N.1 in time for the World Cup next summer (The Telegraph)
I cannot believe neither of these posts generated any discussion. We clearly have a player in Palmer who is someone who never fails to effect a game in a positive way than any other current England player can. Prediction: Palmer will be talked about as another phantom player Hoddle, Le Tissier etc etc that was under used by a backward manager. (Unless Carsley gets in).
Funny how myths develop. Glenn Hoddle played 53 times for England in his favourite position without ever really looking like he belonged... while Le Tissier was always far too lazy to make it at international level. Cole Palmer probably has a better chance of succeeding, but he needs to start showing us he can affect a game over 90 minutes and work well within the team collective. Otherwise he'll simply be just another impact sub.
Probably also not miss call ups with minor injuries as that can dent his momentum. Tuchel is a manager who wants his starting line up well experienced in playing together if possible
Hoddle did not play all those games in his favourite position, he played a very large percentage on the right wing, in a 442.
